Ironically, I can only seem to accomplish that feat with my PGP...

On SS vs Phantom, I agree with B that it is apples and oranges. Both will work well but they are two very different beasts. I've long been a brass Palmer fanatic, but I'm starting to think that markers with more modern features make for a more pleasant paintball experience. The greater configurability of the Phantom will probably make it a better choice for most players.

I do agree that it is relativly hard to compare these two, because they are rather different. I guess what I should have asked for were the differences between the two. But I've actually learned a lot from this thred.

So far I think I like Kidney thief's Idea the most.

I agree. The best marker for any situation depends on your mood, your opponant, you paint consumption, the weather, and so many other factors.

Always good to have choices

Do you want versitile(sp) or fixed configuration?

Heavy or Light?

GreatCustomer Service or Great Customer Service?

Anno or Powder coat/Nickel Plated?

Answer those and then I'll still tell you too...

Buy both like I did. I love them both...

I have only shot a SS, but have had several Phantoms. My vote is Phantom. It lends itself to my style of play much better. I run very fast, and then try to shoot people... Right. But seriously, don't buy a SS for the "steady properties of a heavy marker". If weight is desirable, look here: Phantom Weight Mod

Not that I'm saying anything new here, but if this is your first pump I'd go w/ the Phantom. Easier to find at a decent price. Extra barrels and such are fairly easy to come-by.

Definately more of them in circulation, so you'll have a pretty big knowledge base if you do run into problems.

It wouldn't be my first pump. But I'm looking for my first stock class pump.

Pretty sure for now I'm going to go with a phantom. But now I have to decide weather I want VSC or a dropout. And think of things to sell to get a SS down the road.

Edit: How hard would it feabsily be to rig up a c/a system to a dropout phantom?

Go VSC unless you can't afford it. Most versitile configuration.

Get a dummy 12 gram, a bottom line adapter or asa for the type of grip you have, and the airlines and your done. Or just buy a CA valvebody. Either way, its pretty easy.

Cool, I was pretty sure that would work.

The only reason I'm even thinking dropout is because I kinda like undercocking kits, and I've heard they're more efficient.
