I heard rumours that back in the Nelspot days, people would make a sort of "leaf spring" detent - a flat piece of metal that curved upward in the breech and would act as a combination detent and bore drop conversion. As the bolt slid forward, it pressed the leaf spring down and out of the way. I have no photos or corroboration on this other than reading about it quite some time ago in a source I've since forgotten. I'll post a diagram when able. This is a big topic of discussion for Redux users trying to stop double feeds and pinched paint. This linked thread tells the story: http://www.mcarterbrown.com/forums/r...d68-redux.html Last edited by CJOttawa; 01-24-2011 at 01:45 PM. |

Hmm, I could see how that would make a detent to prevent roll outs but not make it a bore drop, can you esplain it a leetle better?

what? why not just sleeve the breech and lathe down the bolt in that case? because even if you lofted the bottom the ball can still roll side to side. |

My understanding was the spring added height to the floor of the breech, putting the ball a bit higher and stopping the second ball from getting chopped. Quote:
Ease of making the mod but a sleeve would work too, given appropriate tools and materials. | ||

I'm having trouble visualizing it. Is it sorta like a Trracer detent?

I don't understand, I've never chopped a ball pumping. How are you pumping that this is a problem? I tend to be pretty slow and methodical though.

Wrong kind of spring Pif. ![]() This is a leaf spring from a truck suspension system: ![]() What I've heard of in a Nelspot is something like this, aligned longitudinally with the breech. Sitting slightly high in the breech, it takes up the space that would have allowed a double-feed and pinch, until the bolt moves forward and pushes it down. |

that's why I was asking in the other thread if a ASP detent mod could have it's positioning adjusted to perform this task.

I think HaveBlue has said he can do short bolted nelsons to include 007's but that he would need one to work with. Maybe I need to slide on over to the PhOG and volunteer my project 007 marker?
