Does anybody know for sure how those rods are attached? I have not tried to remove mine but it stands to reason that if the parts were separate and then put together they CAN be taken apart its just a matter of knowing how. since they had carbon fiber rods also the only way I figure they can be assembled is with some kind of adhesive maybe something like red loctite. If that is the case you should be able to heat it and the rods would come loose.

Don't think they are threaded, just glued.

Yeah, I think that they are glued or press fit in. I remember that people that were doing their own anno on the first release were sent everything to be annoed but the rods, got the pieces annoed, then sent them back to Metadyne, so Brian could assemble it and put the rods in/on.

They're press fit, though I've heard of people having theirs come apart and had some sort of substance in the attachment holes.

If they are in fact a press fit. Aluminum has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than steel (or stainless steel in this case) so again if you heat the assembly the aluminum will grow away from the steel faster than the steel can expand so again in theory you should be able to heat it up until the press fit is no longer holding it together. If I remember I will do some math later to find out exactly how hot that would need to be for some given interferences.

Anyone know how to remove the piston assembly? I'm polishing mine and I'm trying to do a detail strip.

depends on the version you have. if the newest one then take off the front volume chamber and grab the piston shaft with a 4mm wrench or pair of needle nose pliers and unscrew the small allen head screw out the front.

I haven't checked in here in a while. Anyone else still not received their Thumper from the original pre-order. I paid for mine over a year and a half ago and still have not received it. Emails have gone unanswered/ignored. Can't say I'm very impressed.
