SO many good ideas here! Two minds certainly work better than one, and 10 better than 2

I feel like, if I took all these ideas to one of my machinest friends (brass material, newest wider piston specs, hard anodized internal reg piston/reg piston housing/main piston housing, bigger radius on the main piston's oring grooves, etc), they might be able to do one or two of the suggested changes (i.e. make the brass piston and do correct radius's), it would be difficult to do the other stuff (anodizing particularly, given how it can affect tolerance)... iono, I just hope one day brian checks in on this thread (well, the latter portion of it to be fair on him).

I think Brian would come on here and see ~8700 posts and say," f that!"

EDIT: To add, I think that the brass would be stronger, while being easier to machine than SS. I could see where anodizing the current designs would help tolerances, albeit the fact that the anodizer they use tends to have anno that's on the thin side (just look at all the dust black Gen1's, heck my feed tube got scratched just from being put on my desk.)

And to throw my hat into the ring, I do like the current version of the piston, I still use the "thinner" one as of right now with no issues. Taking the "set it and forget it" approach has worked out for me so far
you're experience is one in a thousand. Maybe just luck, but damn... Why is it that yours works so nice? Never mind. There is no explanation.

THE-SHOOTIST Anyone chubbin' like me for this?
mailmanmike Since Monday! That's more than 4 hours though, so according to those cialis ads I should see my doctor.
tlane77 I think for a non-chemical chubby it's 6 hours before its time to see a doctor. So you should be good for another couple hours.
splattttttt I wasn't goin to google "chubbin" because I assumed it had to do with fat. The lard type, not the fun stuff. But what ever feelings Jeff's experiencing, then they must be of the fun like stuff...

So another week on the new large style piston.
I had shot over 300 rds through it and probably as many dry shots, but Saturday night the glued in small o-ring blew. so I glued in another and played on Sunday with it. another 300 rds ad still going strong.
A stiff urethane o-ring would fix this, I just need to find one.

As for the balls being pushed past the detent when the gun is cocked, I ran an under bored barrel, so that when it shoots past the detent it wont roll down the barrel before being fired. its not the best solution, but it works for now.

this is what happens when you cock it.

When the body was milled for the larger piston they put a chamfer so the o-ring wouldn't get sliced, but this means the piston o-ring leaves the body a fraction of a second earlier then it used to. the o-ring positions on the shaft of the piston are identical to the smaller piston, I think they need to move the o-ring grove back the same distance as the chamfer.
pretty simple fix if you have the skills and equipment(I don't, at least the second part.)

I tried to increase the length of the piston by putting spacers under the head but that didn't work.

If someone can get me a blueprint of the piston, I'd love to play around with the piston in Mastercam

Ok, got my thumper today... First thing I did was put a 12g on it to see what was wrong.
Well I did not get very far. Got 1 shot then click click click...? All tho it did activate the clippard valve. Just did not shoot.
So it was time to rip it apart. Looks like a bent piston but very little bent. I changed a few o-rings, but my o-ring kits have not made it here yet. From the looks of this thumper it is a gen 1 with no upgrades. Do you think if I email Brian he will send me the upgrades with out me sending him the thumper? I want to continue to work on the piston. The one I have is aluminum with the end that threads on, and a hex key at the other end. I will get pictures tomorrow.

I want to try and use a reg tester on the internal reg. To see what the LP is set at and if it is creeping or moving. That will tell me if there is a problem with the internal reg or the problem is just the piston. Below is a picture of the side of a thumper, you will see a grub screw. Does anyone know if that grub screw is on the LP side or the HP side of the piston?
It came with carbon fiber pump arms, do they just unscrew from the breech? It kind of looks like these ones have been JB welded in. Do I have to order a new breech?

Thankx.
