Im about to throw this thing in the trash and cut my losses, after finally receiving my thumper back from metadyne for the second time, this time they replaced the piston with an even stronger piston since it had snapped at the first o-ring groove. I unscrew the front cup(part the very end of the piston rides in) to see how they fixed the problem to find the front o-ring not even there....come on! Really? I understand this isnt the markers fault but how do you forget to put an o-ring on? So none of the o-ring sizes are the same size as from when the marker was first sold, and of course its such an odd size. I would imagine it wouldnt have been a bad idea to include with sending the marker back a few extra o-rings here and there. Does anyone know the type/size for the orings on the new pistons?

They blow out of the groove on the new larger piston. they use a soft rubber o-ring. replace with urethane if possible, stiff rubber if you have too. either way super glue it in place and you wont have any more issues.

Does anyone know what causes the problem where it only fires when you pump it forward? I have been working on a thumper and encountered this problem.

I think that was due to the piston starting to separate from the end cap which causes the middle orings to be out of position

Mine has that issue every now and then but it goes away after a few shots. All I can think of is that, that swivel lever thing causes a few of my problems. I have one of the first thumpers so there are a few "issues" with mine. It gained a few layers of dust which has been cleaned and o-rings changed. Tested a few dry fires and it seemed like it would work, but I never tested it with paint; which I might do this weekend as one of the local guys are eager to shoot it even if I tell him it is moody.
