Are the front of the trigger guard on VSC phantoms actually threaded or are they screwed through and have a nut on one side or the other?

If you are talking about where the vert asa mounts, the asa is threaded like the old backbottle adapters on Mags. The screws just go through the trigger guard and into the asa.

ok so the screw head is on the trigger side of the guard and just threads into the asa itself no nuts needed?

Right. The ASA is basically the "nut" in this case.
