PMI Trracer - pump handle won't come off?

Picked up a pmi tracer in beautiful shape for a song from a kid who was interning with us, who had no use for it. I've torn down dozens of Nelson type pumps over the years, but I'm a bit flummoxed with this. I've got the tracer fully torn down at this point, but for some reason I can't get the pump handle/arms to slide off the barrel. Almost seems like it "catches" at one point, and no amount of twisting or turning allows it to slide further. Maybe that's what it's supposed to do, or maybe there's a simple explanation that someone here can give, that will make me smack my forehead once I read it. For what it's worth, it seems like the barrel/body is permanently fitted together...have tried to unscrew the barrel, to no avail. It looks like two pieces, but all the unibodies I've had were generally one continuous tube.
Any thoughts, MCB?

Old style PMI, but looks to be a later model based on condition. Which is part of my confusion...I thought the later ones had removable barrels.

Yours is a uni body? i thought all the old PMI ones were removable? I own a Maverick and used to have a PMI and you had to remove the barrel before the handle would come off. The barrel has a ring that you handle will get caught on and refuse to come off.

The first thing that I did when I got my classic Trracers was to take off that ring on the barrel. It served no purpose for me.

Thanks for the pointers all. Looks like my battle will be with removing the barrel. Very much hoping it wasn't loc-tited or otherwise permanently affixed. Time to break out the PB blaster and a strap wrench.
