My Nightmare is a Nightmare

Hey,

What's up guys. I have a very old Brass Eagle Nightmare LB and about two years ago (the last time I've used it) it started venting down the barrel. I've tryed to disassemble it and find any broken o-ring or anything else but I just can't take the valve off the body. I've tryed contacting K2 and the new Brass Eagle guys but they don't even anser my e-mails. Does any of you have a disassembling manual or pictures or hint or anything to help me?

Also, where can I find spare parts for it? I love the feeling and looks of this marker but can't use it as it is.

Thanks,

Mendel.

Sounds like the cup seal. Go into the WTB section on here and make a post looking for Nightmare parts. You should have good luck there once you find out exactly what the issue is on her.

If someone on here can't fix it, then you are doomed.

Luckily (maybe) the Brass Eagle Nightmare cupseal is actually a disc. If you can get in there ( you need to remove at least three grub screws.. they are small and need an allen wrench for removal.. then the valve should slide out) you can flip the cupseal around.

But I have a feeling that in the process you are probably going to munge up an oring or two... Unfortunately no one makes these specifically for paintball anymore, but you might be able to find replacements at a good hardware store.

And yes there are a few people here that can walk you through disassembly.... but you probably won't have to post anywhere else.. they will probably see it here.

The valve is surely a PITA to remove. Start by removing the grip frame and the pump handle...next there should be a two set-screws one either side of the lower tube that need totally removed. Once all those items are removed you need to get a wooden dowel of something suitable that wont mar the barrel or valve(I use a 2' section of 1/2" dowel). Insert the dowel down the barrel and give it a few whacks with a hammer and all the guts should fallout the rear of the gun.

Once you have the valve/bolt/hammer out you can remove the rear(brass) screw from the valve. This takes a special tool but you can make your own by cutting a 1/4" slot into a quarter w/ a dremel or something similar. Once removed you can pull all the guts out of the actual valve for inspection. There is one o-ring and a "thermo" style disk type cup seal. Chances are the thermo seal has gone bad....replacements are indeed very hard to find. I was having mine made by a local hydrolics company which you may be able to find locally.

If your extremely lucky it will be one of the o-rings (most likely the forward one) one the outside of the valve body...in that case a simple trip to the hardware store will yield a replacement.

Be very carefull when you are pulling and reinserting the valve...if you put even the lightest scratch in the area where the valve seals to the body you will never get the gun to seal up.

If you find yourself stumped let me know and i can take a few pics for you.

That's exactly what was wrong with mine. 3/4 of the forward oring was fine but the rest was mangled leaking air.

I had a spare in my oring bag that was roughly the same size so I popped it in there, and it worked like a charm.

My 70$ non functioning ebay nightmare now works like a champion.

The oring I had to replace eventually was this one, #9 just in front of 8 the metal washer.

I'd take actual pictures, but it works and seals now, I ain't taking it apart again.

GOOD! Kidneythief said exactly what I would have, but you hit on the final key: the less you open that puppy up, the better. With my Nightmare, even if you think you need to clean it, there's a high likelyhood that the gunk you wanted to remove was actually helping to keep the thing sealed. And, getting the same o-rings to seal the same way twice is a crap shoot. Even the amount you tighten or loosen the setscrews can cause leaks (too tight pushes the body away from the valve, too loose, things move). Even knowing all that, even if it works Friday night, on Saturday morning it might leak like government secrets in an election year.

Moral of the Story: If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Yeah I picked up a p68 to make myself feel better anyway.

Mine was a real project, didn't hold air, someone filled in/ground down the 4 set screws, rusted peices. Missing screws. Dirty as all sin, one of it's owners must have hated it.

The nightmare was the first vintage gun I saw and thought was awesome incarnate because nothing else on the market looked like it. But after learning they weren't so fun to fix, I've backed off from them.

Why DID they make them so ridiculously hard to fix?!

To be honest I didn't find it so much 'hard' to fix as it was tedious/awkward. Although I suppose you could call that hard in a way.
