When I get home from work I will try to get a picture of it, might be hard though.

Yes its a used gun, and to be honest I would be shocked if the guy I bought it from was careless with maintenance. I guess a better way to describe the "damage" is, it looks like metal that started to corrode (think knife blade) and never got oiled. So it has those kinda randomly shaped parts of the metal that don't refract light.

Would that 8" barrel work with a standard barrel pump kit?

It should work fine with either of the standard-length pump handles (the older style which is a bit longer or the newer one which is a bit shorter, about 5" long, I think). Here it is on my old Phantom:

Check if it's not just some dried on crap. My friend bought a barely used phantom from a local guy, and he used it for reball and lubed it with DOW, it left dried up crap all down the barrel, and was really hard to get most of it off. I don't know if it's even all gone yet, and that was months ago.

We have polished and cleaned the barrel a couple times. The polishing helped, but its still there. On the thread end you can actually see randomly shaped divots in the metal.

I will get some photos up tonight if I can capture it right in a pic.

Best barrel I ever used was ones made of either brass or ss, the gun don't matter here. Just the paint going in.
You messed up barrel sounds like somthing I noticed when I used Googone. Bad stuff for anno.

Those don't look bad enough to affect performance, it could have been a defect in the barrel blank, or the end of a blank.

Not sure if I mentioned, but it goes throughout the entire length of the barrel.

Looks like etching in the base material.

Well I got a Autospirit on the way now, so hopefully it will help. If the gun is still shooting wacky then I need to look elsewhere.
