Cup Seal break-in

My old nelson pump has a leak down the barrel, I know it's the cup seal. Mine is new, one of the nicer units made from brass and having a plastic insert on the sealing surface. It's the first new seal I have added in about 15 years on this gun, so I may have forgotten a step somewhere.

Anybody have an idea on how long it takes to wear onna these things in? Or is there a method for "lapping" the seal into shape quickly?

It's a pretty minor leak, but is still annoying.

Uhmmm... fixed... looks like it was just a bad seal - I put on a cheap plastic seal and was rewarded with silence.

The brass one sounds like it was the ones orginally made. If the delrin one you are using ever strips out just go to Component Concepts, Inc. (CCI) Phantom Paintball Markers and email Mike Cassady for getting an old school size Phantom power tube and cup seal assembly.

Now I just need to get the springs right - see... this is what I get for messing with the dang thing. It WAS working just fine, then I HAD to mess with it.

In terms of getting springs, are you gonna go with the Maddman kit? Or do you have secret nelson specific spring supplier out there you've been keeping from us (cci doesn't count)?!?

I have a set of Nelson springs - I WAS missing a couple, but I got a full set from BACCI.

But there are spring companies out there that will make the spring you specify, if you ask nicely and can afford them... They are just music-wire, but of differing wire diameters and coils-per-inch, and since Bacci had them, I didn't feel the need to go down the road of re-inventing the nelson spring.

I do, however, have a CCI Phantom power tube in the old Reb - so who knows if my spring setup will work on any other guns. I mat have a phantom PT, but I have a much heavier hammer, so this should be mostly interesting to get set up.

lol I know, I already learned that the hard way (looking for a lone star bottom line adapter, 5$ you know? end up getting that and a nice AGD CA-II for 130 or so more...

original nelson seals are solid brass. if it has plastic insert it's probably from elsewhere, and those do unscrew (they're multiple pieces)
