Raptor Barrel on Sterling

I know raptor barrels can be made to fit a sterling, but what has to be done for it to work? I want to get an older lapco raptor barrel to work on my sterling. Thanks.

You just have to turn ~.25" off the "shoulder"- the fat part of the barrel just past the threads. It can be done on a $500 lathe, no problem, in about 3 minutes.

Thats it? Sounds like it shouldnt cost too much for someone to do, since I dont have a lathe. The actual threads are the exact same?

The threads are the same. When you have it done though, make sure the person doing it has the barrel and the marker to test fit it. We had one come back, and I had to do some hand filing to make it fit cause the tolerances we so tight. Also, depending on the sterling, make sure that the barrel fits into the pump handle, otherwise you will have to mod that a bit too.

As an alternative, you could have the body cut instead of the barrel, thus eliminating the need to mod other raptor barrels. Somebody here had that done..I think it was Cunha.

I did mine. I turned down a freak and another SP barrel. I also threaded the body, which had a glued in barrel. Raptor threads are 7/8-14. I won't do this for others,as I have no time even for myself. However I would contact Rainmann229. I know he has done a few of these in the past. Sterling Restoration Pg.2

I would prefer to get the barrel turned down instead of messing with the body. The barrel is alot easier to find than a new classic body. Thanks guys.

Anybody know if this can be easily done with just a file? Dont have a lathe and dont want to spend too much for somebody to do.
