Typical shots per 12 gram from Sniper II.

Just tuned up the STO for 12 gram use and decided to do some further tinkering. Running a 12 gram through the AKA sidewinder, I am getting roughly 45 useful shots. From what I can tell, the valve spring isn't too awfully heavy, but I did not look further into that; just went through the main springs and picked which one would get me the lightest cocking action while still activating the valve; turned out to be a medium spring with the IVG fairly far in. I'll get an inline pressure when possible, but it is sub-400PSI.

These were not chronographed, but initial shots were 250+ FPS and the last useful shot broke cleanly on a tree from 60'; looked to be around 200FPS (as said, these were eyeballed, but I am a self-proclaimed human chronograph ). These being regulated as opposed to running straight 12-gram might have some effect on this.

Is this typical for a Sniper 2 or is me being as surprised as I am right now understandable? I don't seem to remember my previous pre-2K's being this... perfect?

edit: Eye candy -

I'll have to further look into that when I get a valve tool; the hammer being upgraded (ANS Stainless I believe) lends me to believe the valve might have had some work done.

I updated the original post and added some eye candy.

I started a thread about this ages ago in the WGP forum. With an internally stock '99 pump Cocker I was able to get 30+ shots on a 12ie running through an unadjusted stock WGP reg.

I got about 25 on my Sniper running the changer straight into the valve. But then again I have a 16" double ported PPS Brass barrel, and stock springs and valve... :P Maybe with an 8" unported and some tuning that would go up.

Everyone going bananas for the 45 shot count...most people don't consider anything under 260 to be a good shot. You'll know you're efficient when you can get 50 shots over 260 like some nelspots can.

I'll be sure to get some chrono readings over the weekend; my handheld isn't being very reliable as of late.

People don't consider sub-260 to be a good shot? I have always tuned my pumps around 250-260 for increased efficiency because I felt it was more than enough to deliver a ball at any reasonable range (and considering I tend to play more aggressive while using a pump)...

I sure don't. I consider a "good shot" to be one that is close in power to the chrono limit I've set the gun to, which happens to be 290ish. Sure you can squeeze a few blooper shots out, but they aren't "good" shots.

That's why Sheridans bug me. Their fps curve is much steeper than a Nelson's. Sheridans usually drop 30-40 fps within the first five shots.

I have tuned a few in my day. My best effort was around the mid 30's @ 280. With good paint to barrel fit a few more. Outside temp also effects the outcome a lot.
