Review & Minor tuning .... RAINMAN 229 AGD pump kit

Wanted to do a quick little review and talk about some set up & tuning tips I came across getting my classic mag set up with one of Claudio's (Rainman 229) pump kits.

I had purchased just the kit & had Claudio do milling on my Classic rail & Stainless body.

* First assembly issue I encountered was the pump rod excessively rubbing the inner edge of rail slot at full back cocking position ( This made filing the slot a tad wider at end of rail necessary )

* Next found the pump (reset) rod to be @ 1/8" too long. This became evident after some use by having an odd vibration coming down pump handle on occasion & impact marks on tip of rod from the bolt hitting it while firing.
... With valve removed you could see that the end of rod was not going under the edge milled into body & remained exposed having the bolt hit it before the bolts return spring coil bound stopping forward movement. Also noted when cocking marker @ 1/4" of the guide slot showed when handle was in full rear position.

What I did was remove @ 1/8" off the end of cocking rod with a small bench belt sander. Now when pump handle is full forward the rod tip just go's under the ledge of frame and no longer gets hit by the bolt. When cocking, the handle now travels to within the last 1/8" of the guide slot. ( Did grind end of rod on an angle so it contacts edge of bolts rim squarely )

ALL the parts fit together as they should, the o-rings and wave spring appear to be engineered just right ... It all seems so damn simple of a design. yet needs to be built correctly to work this well.

GREAT JOB Rainman 229 !!

Once addressing these minor issues the operation of this kit is FLAWLESS and only required the use of 1 light pump handle return spring.

The quality & workmanship on these pump kits is FIRST CLASS and would recommend one to those wanting to have a First Class Pump Mag.

Regards,
Scott
