Chameleon/ AutoNelson kit + Maverick

SOLD

For sale I have a good condition Chameleon kit, which until recently was mounted to my Maverick. Its in fair working condition, with some scratches on the shroud. There are no leaks, and it works perfectly. I have all the original parts, including the brass trigger shoe, actuator bar, and sight rail screw. I'm looking For 40$+ shipping.

Also, I have a maverick, with the rear sight rail hole stripped out. there are some minor scratches on the receiver and grip frame. The trigger has minor mars (sp??) and gouges on it from the brass trigger shoe. its in good working condition, shoots fine and cycles properly. No leaks. I have three barrels, A stock, a 14" old style all American Barrel, and a stock barrel with holes drilled into it (very good finish and clean; not a hackjob)

Looking for about 50$+ shipping

Hope I didn't forget anything. Questions welcomed.

forgot to mention, the valve adapter/extension had 2 holes drilled into it to increase flow.

There are also some scratches and one hole on the bottom of the shroud where something was mounted

WILL DO 35$ SHIPPED FOR THE KIT

The Maverick is still available, but I can't sell both bolts, as I have a second maverick, I just don't care which bolt I keep. I can get pictures if you want, but probably not until this weekend.

Yes, the kit make it semi, similar to an autococker. The kit is basically a LPR, 4-way, and ram bolted onto the side of the gun. An actuator rod on the trigger shoe actuates the 4-way after the gun fires, and the ram pulls back a bolt which originally held on the pump arm. Releasing the trigger causes the bolt to then come forward.

I am going to be straight forward and upfront about some problems I have had (by problems I mean issues with the design, not damage)

The kit has a tendency to strip the sight rail screws, which is one of the ways that holds the kit steady on the gun. While the kit will stay solidly an tightly on the gun without being attached to the sight rail, the ram has tendency to come forward when firing, thus the gun will not cock After my sight rail holes stripped, I was able to remedy this by putting A spacer in between the shroud and the sight rail, thus not allowing the shroud/ram to come forward, and allowing the gun to fully cock. With only works if one of the holes is not striped, as was the case in my scenario.

Another problem I have heard of is that it "eats" stock maverick bolts, although I have not noticed this at all on any of my bolts, other than a little wear where the sear is held (and I really doubt this is from the kit)
One of my biggest gripes with the kit is the trigger pull. I hate it. I don't know why, its not horribly long, and its not too stiff, but I just hate the feel of the trigger, and i know others who feel the same way.

Lastly, its loud as heck. Not really a problem, but something you people should know anyway.

Overall, if you baby the rear sight rail screw hole, and don't mind the trigger, it is a decent and cheap piece.

My experience with the Chamelion kit has been an odd one.
Basically, in all my effort to make the thing work, I ended up butchering it.

The biggest drawback as I see it was that this was designed as a Bolt On Kit. The placements are awkward, and it cannot use the full force of the ram effectivly.
The second problem as I saw it was the way a nelson valvetrain fires. With the 4 way being activated after the trigger pull, The activation point has to be set VERY close to the firing point to avoid shortstroking, or worse, Autotriggering, Which then results in an empty shot (Ram cycles, But no ball is fired, as two shots were fired on the previous cycle)
That being said, There ARE a few things you can do with this kit right off the bat that improve it's performance significantly.
#1: Epoxy down the sight rail, tap the recess at the rear of the Sight rail for an insert (Setscrew or the like, anything made of steel or brass with at least 5-6 thread depth) Tap the insert for a screw, and use that to secure the Pneumatics framework.
#2: Tap the Valve body of the maverick for 1/8 NPT and run a modern adjustable LPR off it. (This eliminates that silly Extention off the rear ASA, And allows more flow and so forth than the stock LPR)
#3: Replace the Heavy humphrey 4-way with a 'cocker 4-way. For this one, You'll want to get a 4Way with the timing yoke (Silver flared bit) Still attached. You can even bend up a Cocker timing rod and tap the other end to ride in the stock hole in the trigger shoe. (Correct me if I'm wrong, is actually 6-32? 8-32?)
#4: This one is tricky, but fully completes the Kit's Rebirth: Buy 2 Clippard QEVs in 10-32 thread. Use the fittings from the humphrey 4 way and plumb the QEVs up to the Ram. Only problem now is that the lid doesn't fit on the Framework. -The Lid Is Nessasary-. Otherwise the framework flexes, you get metal fatigue, and the whole thing breaks up. So, You will need to cut out two holes for the QEVs to pop out of. This is tricky careful work, but a Dremel cutoff wheel and some patience can accomplish this task.
All these mods will work together to make it feel like you're shooting a semi auto with the trigger pull of a pump.

BTW, if you're accepting trades my good man, I have a few pieces of interest. I'd love to have another chamelion to work on. last one was sacrificed in the name of science, I do belive knowing what I do know now I could make yours sing a merry little tune once It's out of my workshop.

You pretty much summed everything up perfectly. Now that I think about it, it would appear that the original owner had begun this process, but stopped halfway. The original sight rail that came with my gun was tapped, although not glued down, and an extra asa was tapped for a lpr fitting. It was also drilled out inside slightly larger than a stock asa, which was probably to also improve flow even more. I guess he didn't realize how long the rear frame screw hole was, as the larger hole goes straight through it, and it leaks without teflon tape.

And about autotriggering, you're right; whenever the actuator bar or trigger shoe came loose, I would get stupid amounts of blanks and double fires.

I might be interested in trades, what do you have in mind?

*Grin* I'm a gun whore. Got me a purty lever action TASO nellie I just finished up, with a big Paracord wrapped cowboy style lever, CA/DF, Set in a Ruger Mini-14 stock, Refinished with linseed oil, and a thousand laps with 0000 steel wool. Can take pics if you're interested in that sorta thing, But it's an one of a kinder.
An O2 oddysey electro, your basic stacked tube Timmy style trayless Co2 friendly electropneumatic. Takes spyder barrels. Good gun overall, I just dislike electros.
A few cocker barrels, An AKA 10" wirebrushed ceramic Javelin, An Evil one piece, A PMI perfect ceramic, and a cocker stock barrel.
A 68/3K Luxfer in hydro with an Air America Apoc. Reg head, With Air america Rebuild kit.
A .68 special that needs a trigger and maybe some valve work. (Prolly not, huh? It's got an old style All American barrel...)
And misc parts. I'll have cash next week if none of thise tickle fancy.

I just had a thought.

I would REALLY like a 3.5 (or 4.0?) ounce tank as a straight trade. Also looking for Impulse barrels.
