I own a magic box mag (courtesy of my older brother getting one done way back when) and multiple classics. I've done side by side comparisons shooting from a fixed position between them and it does add some range. Very little, but some nonetheless.

I always felt mine had a better trajectory than the other mags. I don't know about distance but the line the ball took made it a better shot. I shot that thing all the way up to the electro revolution.

they're not shooting at the exact same velocity and angle.

you can't defy physics, if smart parts pulled it off then they would be selling that magic box for more than just paintball.

Agreed.

No I take it back, it does add range by defying physics! How? Well smart parts was up front and honest about this one, it's magic! Smart parts is a magical company with aptitude for sorcery and alchemy far beyond us. They magically made mags shoot further by laughing in the face of sir isac, and they magically used their alchemical skill to turn blank paper into patents that they did not really hold in entirety. *With smart parts anything in the realm of the impossible is now possible*!

If I recall correctly, utilizing this technique did in fact add distance because of the velocity spike caused by a shot of liquid...... No wait, that was the Z-1

So I spent all morning and found the famous PBN thread:

Gets good at pg 31:
Smart Parts files gas-through-gripframe patent (Mini affected?) - Page 31

The Magic Box gets brought up at page 36:
Smart Parts files gas-through-gripframe patent (Mini affected?) - Page 36

Doc pops in at page 43,46:
Smart Parts files gas-through-gripframe patent (Mini affected?) - Page 43
Smart Parts files gas-through-gripframe patent (Mini affected?) - Page 46

Tom pops in at page 48:
http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.p...397602&page=48

A quote from Doc in that thread

".... It's a hollow tube fitted to the side of the 'Mag dump chamber, that increases the total volume roughly 20%. This had the effect of lowering the operating pressure from around 400 psi to right around 350 psi.

This, in turn, reduced gas efficiency (shots per tank) by about ten percent.

That's it. That's the only thing it did.

The "made for" SmartMags, simply had two holes drilled on either side of the dump chamber inlet, that roughly approximated the additionbal volume of the external tube.

Again, it didn't do anything. Every claimed aspect was entirely false.

Interestingly enough, another company called Foxhunters, made a version with a smaller chamber. This increased the op pressure from 400 to about 450 psi, and increased gas efficiency by about that same ten percent.

The problem here was that it also made the trigger pull harder (more pressure on both the on-off valve pin, and the bolt and thus the sear) and accellerated sear wear.

Doc."
