does that magic box raise its value, even though it doesn't actually do anything?

It actually does add some range, although not nearly as much as smart parts claims.

What do you mean?

Tom Kaye himself said that it worked until the early/mid 3000 serial numbered mags when he started designing them with higher internal volumes to run at slightly lower pressures. Basically the magic box worked as a reverse regulator or just a volumizer, I can't remember which of those two, but it was moot once Kaye modified his base Automag design and started production mid 3000 serials.

And here's the actual quote that Mr Kaye said about the Magic Hoax/box..Your thinking of the 8 hole mod..:bang::bang::bang::bang:

Question toTom Kaye,
I bought a brand new minimag a couple of weeks ago. I had smart parts put on
the magic box, i'm not sure if it added any distance because I got a AA barrel
the same time. What else if any can make the gun shoot further? Also i've had
probelms with the valuve freezing I have a 20ozanti siphon and a remote, plus
expansion chamber,and I don't shoot any superhuman speed,any ideas?

Thanks for the help, love the feel of the gun just hoping to get it to work
better.

Jason DesJardins

Jason, range is an ongoing debate, we have not seen anything except higher velocity make balls go farther. Anything you do will only delay the onset of liquid in the gun, yours sounds like it is set up well but make sure the anti siphon is set up correctly.

Added value? Not on MCB. I couldn't get 60.00 for a complete Magic Box marker here because all the true Mag collectors knew what a joke it was......

I thought i heard you could roll the gun sideways to dump some liquid co2 into the box to let a little liquid spike or similar.

It does not add any range, nothing you do to a paintball gun will add any range (other than a flat-line barrel of-course). It would shoot no further than any other paintball gun running at the same velocity.

i put one on a smart parts pump mag i built....

but the stupid wave spring pump linkage never works right, so i've never really shot it...

its awkward as all get out... it sticks out a solid 2" from the side

The best thing to come from the MagicBox is the debate on PBN between Tom Kaye and one of the Gardiners from SP. It was priceless. Anyone have a link to that? Its worth reading again.

I'm sure they did have some use? THose early mags had issues with shootdown, and poor recharge rates. But people laughed when they took the large "protective cover" off the box, and discovered an ordinary brass elbow underneath! lol
