how do novas perform? and btw, whats the real reason airstar went out of business? I read a rumor on pbreview that one of their lines of Novas was super defective and they had to fix tons of faulty, dangerous units. I dont believe all i hear though. Anyways, let me know the truth, I've always wanted to see one of these guns cause I bet a moving barrel is pretty unique looking

They weren't necessarily dangerous, nobody was ever actually injured. What would happen is, in certain models, the sight rail screw actually held part of the spool valve in place.

People would remove the sight rail, not replace the screw, and eventually, one guy had the internals fly out the back of the body. AirStar went belly-up because they had to retrofit a bunch of markers (even though it was operator error) and because they instantly got a terrible reputation.

By thw way, if anyone knows where I can get hold of one, I'd be very thankful.

Keep an eye here and on e-Bay. One comes up about every three months. I ran across one NIB languishing on the shelf of a hardware store. They wanted (IIRC) $400 or so for it. If you're interested, I will try to dredge up the e-mails with that store.

There's one on eBay with a clean (non-recall) serial, with the extra 16" barrel. I'm hoping it stays low enough that the wife will let me purchase. I feel kinda bad buying myself a $200-400 toy in the month before Xmas, but it's a Nova, man...also, what the heck have any of them done for me lately ?

Not a bad price either. It's an early model (slanted bottomline).

That's part of the deal, but that's not all. They had a batch where the reg was drilled too deep, or something to that effect. This could cause it to go full pressure. If this happened while the screw was missing the rear plug would go popping out into whatever is behind the gun. IIRC the fix was a longer reg seat (polyurethane rod).

Thanks for the info. I lucked into one of these back in my early days, then short-sightedly disposed of it in the pursuit of mil-sim craziness (the Nova looks like more a violent sex toy than a weapon) and I really want another. On the way, I'm collecting all the information I can find. I'm finding this site to be an insane resource. Thanks!

Why are these so sought after? Were ahead of their time or exceptionally good or what? I am not very familiar with them.
