At least it comes with an on/off valve. You need one in order to use the gun, since the ASA does not have a pin depressor.

I remember the S4 was originally shipped with a non-DOT approved 7oz tank. It was really bizzare looking.

If nothing else, its a pretty cool looking gun. Compared to the price of Palmer nasties, its a great deal.

The long thin one with a cap on one end and a valve on the other? Those are still used on "RAP4" guns, and many other Chinese markers.... They're all tested/approved, but I do remember the originals.

They were not approved originally. At the field I worked for, they were on the "black list". Same for those small RAP4 tanks. I remember the RAP4 website used to list instructions on how to bypass DOT rules by filling your own tanks.

Yes, they might be DOT-approved now, with all the proper stamps. RAP4 is profitable enough now that I'm sure they want to avoid any liability problems. But that does not make them pre-DOT ones any more legal to fill/transport.

I think those tanks did not even have burst disc?

Oh I know! I wasn't saying they were approved, the quality has gone way up thankfully. The old ones were like timebombs, especially when it came to the markers they were sold with...

They just don't work well due to the design.

In a nutshell the design wasn't the greatest, the tolerances weren't ideal and I have never seen one work right in spite of the best efforts of many different people.
