Carter will send out various shaped sear trippers upon request, so that you can get a feel for what suits you best. They range from short to long, and crisp to soft. Basically, the way I describe the feel on all of them is either light= long, and heavy= short... He grinds the sear as well to be smooth slope, so the sear is innegotiable, but great out of the box.

Well, I did two things to finish this mod off. 1st, I took GoggedGurl's advice and took a cratex polishing bit to it. Mirror finish. I am a believer in cratex now. 2nd, I replaced the front trigger stop screw, the standard 4-40 x 1/4, with a 4-40 x 1/2. The result: no more "3 day trigger pull". With the 4-40 x 1/2, you get enough extension to completely remove slack from the trigger.I don't have a way of quantifying it but if I find someone with a trigger measuring device (CSI???) I'll post the trigger pull length until hammer release and the weight prior to release.

From the depths of forum I thought I would revive this thread to ask how is this mod fairing two years later? Any wear and tear or has it gotten smoother?

Well, I've probably put several cases of paint through the 'dux and the mod's held up with no ill effect what-so-ever. The sear-tripper pin is extremely hard; you need a diamond or carbide file to work the metal so wear doesn't seem to be an issue. My next mod will be some sear work to see if I can lighten the pull further. |

Nice have you considered a delrin tripper?

The RTR Gargoyle uses a delrin tripper. I have a hard time noticing any difference during the trigger pull as to which is smoother. I want to say my Carter with the steel tripper? It's coned shaped but tapered on top... Almost ball shaped. The RTR tripper... ![]()
