At 75¢ per 12-gram powerlet, I'd call this exercise "smart" not "obsessed."

No, it an obsession!

10 in the tube, 1 shot one KIA is priceless. I find it funny and sometimes annoying when people obsess over 10 to 15 shots because real stock class players know by the sound of the "pop" when its time to change. Although my Redux is capable of 47 shots I usually swap out at two tubes because I want that "one shot" to count.

Sure 47 shots is fun and tinkering is even more fun but in reality when its mano e' mano with casagame players I need that "thump" to be fast and hard. I have gone from 30 balls a day to over 200 and have incorporated a dump pouch on my current vest because I dont want Challenge Games to ban me from the field based on my littering of the field with empty crossmans. After all Im the only fool with in miles who ever shoots 12 grams.

Its all goo CJ keep up the obsession, after all its fun.

dsa, when the set up is tuned to the peak with say a lapco set, the teltale gradual drop in velocity and the little pop in the valve body is pretty much gone.

its really hard to adapt to and the drop off happens really quick so you get a ton of usable shots.

CJ- were you able to cut the hardned hammer with a standard HSS endmill?

It was a friend who did the milling and he used a triple-fluted 3/8" carbide end mill.

The steel isn't actually hardened, it's nickel plated. Once you're through the nickel plating, the steel cuts easily. (speaking as someone who's drilled through a Phantom bolt with a pin vice)

GG the only bad thing about lapco powertubes is they snap real easy I refuse to buy them. For me I really hear a distinct difference and just swap hell I have a $1100.00 pump gun I can afford to waste 12 grams if not I should be using a pgp.

I played a bit yesterday and have a preliminary report.
  • Indoor temperature was about 17°C/63°F.
  • Fresh Mosa 12-gram.
  • Red main spring, blue valve spring
  • 0.682caliber stainless steel Freak insert, slightly under-bored for the paint being shot
  • standard 6.25 inch Redux barrel
  • pump held forward while shooting
  • Test shots: 295fps, 294fps, 295fps initially, went through 10 shots within 2 minutes.
  • Waited a few minutes, shot another 10 rounds over a couple of minutes ~298fps down to about ~292fps.
  • Waited a few minutes, shot another 10 rounds over a couple of minutes ~285fps down to about <250fps.

That's 30 shots, at high velocity, with not much of a rest between shots or tubes.

Between the chronoed shots, I took shots at a hanging target (an expired 48ci tank suspended on a rope) at about 60-feet and was hitting it regularly with misses only inches away.

Seems more consistent than previously and probably added a few shots. I used to have to change out 12-grams before shot 30. Now, I'm pretty comfortable hitting 30, consistent shots, at 295fps no less.

I expect warmer temperatures would yield higher shot count, as would dialing down the speed to 275fps.

More testing to come.
