EDIT - this doesn't work. I've tried. The problem with the Redux pinching is the gap between feed tube and breech. The way to correct it is to mill the slide and feed block to give it a ramp OR to mill the whole slide and eliminate the feed block. Credit where credit is due: Quote:
Historical Data below EDIT: see the discussion below. DSA had the idea of turning the main bolt down so the OD was .68 cal and using a matching sleeve to act as a breech insert. The net effect is a bore-drop marker instead of breech drop. I have a spare bolt and will try this when I have access to the appropriate tools. If you can't picture what we're talking about, think of it this way: bore drop is ".80cal." We're talking about making the bolt ".68 cal." Similar idea to .50 cal. inserts in a .68 cal. gun. Here's an animation of a BREECH-drop marker: ![]() The breech is larger than the barrel bore, thus "breech" drop. The proposed modification would eliminate the "step" in the bolt, making it the same size as the section currently ahead of the breech o-ring. ___________________________ I had a "eureka!" moment today - at least, it may be, or it may be a dead end. Speaking only for my Redux, it will pinch paint, if not tilted slightly backward and away from the feed tube when pumped. If there's a second ball over the breech, that ball will fall behind the first ball and will get pinched. I've been trying to figure out why it would pinch if held perfectly horizontally and came up with this:
There's an easy test to determine if this will work:
If that works, the next step is finding a way to attach the feed tube with a reduced or no-height block. I tried grinding the main bolt down but all that did was add more of a gap to pinch paint; results of that experiment, with photos of the slide and snub with paint, are in this thread: Nelson bolts: grinding a ramp for the Redux - failure If anyone wants to try this, I won't likely have time for a while... post results! I don't see it working mainly because in breech loaded systems the breech is much bigger than the ball so your only solution is making it semi bore or true bore. Semi bore could be accomplished with an insert sleeve and a modified front bolt similar to that 50 cal insert. This would prolly be the easiest route and most marketable because every existing redux owner could purchase the set. These sleeves could be made in minimal time Basicly the sleeve would take up the gap around the breech bringing the diameter to bore specs. Very much like a barrel insert with a feed hole WDYT mOngo? I like your idea better DSA! It would be faster and easier to implement, involving only turning down a standard bolt and making the sleeve. The Redux bolt is already turned down from a standard Phantom bolt so this would just mean a bit more time on a lathe and creating the breech insert. Having owned both a Duck and a Redux, I can confirm that the Redux "feedblock adds a significant gap between the horizontal tube and the breech" relative to a Duck. The Duck's feedtube is literally glued/welded on the body, there is a milled groove down the length of the slide that it sits in, which allows the feedtube to be as close as possible. For example... http://www.flickr.com/photos/30791460@N06/3429837645/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/30791460@N06/3429836875/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/30791460@N06/3429836631/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/30791460@N06/3430648592/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/30791460@N06/3429836355/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/30791460@N06/3429836509/

I think thats super glue on your 2500 Duck, give me a milled feed neck which in the future will have a hopper adpt :P

lol, you can't beat versatility eh? Just by the nature of the feedblock design, the Redux has the potential to be the phantoms of the Duck world!

Just bustn your balls iron that's one purdy duck gotta love the lines. Being an avid duck user what do you think about the breech to bore insert sleeve idea?
