No blown out seal!

I'll report after testing this during some games.

LOL.

In over a year, I have never had Mongo's liquid seal wear out or let go on me but I wanted a backup.

I don't have a syringe and can't easily find the same type of silicone Mongo used so I went with what I had.

Update

The standard pierce-pin seal, JB Welded in place, has never blown out on me.

I've tested it in game, on and off field and with 12-grams ranging from nearly empty to full.

Advantage to the standard CCI seal is ease of availability. Everyone can JB Weld a seal in place.

Disadvantages:
  • If a full or near full 12-gram is dumped into the seal, it will frost up enough to require warming prior to installing a new 12-gram.
  • NOT letting it defrost will result in an unstoppable leak: the fresh 12-gram will start by leaking slowly, contributing to the frost problem and making the leak worse until the 12-gram is empty.

As an aside: you can modify your velocity adjust tool for use in changing pierce-pin assemblies. See this thread: http://www.mcarterbrown.com/forums/c...-assembly.html

GREAT suggestion from PB Weasel: RTV sealant!

LOCTITE® 598 looks promising; it's rated -59°C to 329°C; the cold rating is of interest since dry-ice (solid CO2) is about -56°C.

I'll take suggestions for other products to use but I think this looks promising.

I have a question as far as the pierce assembly goes, are you sure that the CCI one is threaded the same as the redux one? I know that the CCI one has a longer threaded shaft, by my count 5 vs the redux which only has 3, but for some reason it seems like the original redux one may have a more coarse thread. Or it could just be an illusion. Either way let me know please, because this has to do with what I've been PMing about. Thanks man

And I just noticed that it does appear on the CCI pin as though the top thread or so has been mashed and cross threaded to hell, am I right?

I wish I knew about the liquid seal when I had my boxgun.

Mongo - Do you mind sharing exactly what brand and type of aquarium sealant you have found to work well? If you consider it a trade secret or something, I understand..but otherwise it would be helpful for us DIYers

Screw threads were measured and compared before proceeding with the modification. The assembly was then cut down with a razor saw and the sharp edge was removed with a file. This worked well for the aluminum version of the CCI pierce pin. CJ can provide more details...

I figured that you guys would know what you were doing, but I had to ask.
