45-shots on a 12-inch barrel. Apples and oranges. All the junk behind the ball, connected to the gas supply, means little compared to 6-inches of extra barrel to accelerate the ball with.

No alignment whatsoever on the insert! It's free to turn... there are grooves around the circumference to allow gas to migrate regardless of alignment.

On the flipside have you attempted using a non modified #4, this would effectivly limit the amount of gas released per shot would it not? I assume Steve went big for a reason. I recommend picking up several different power tubes and testing over a cold beer.
Yep! I've got #0's, #2's, #4's and #6 powertubes. None of them helped.
Most definitely a cloud on the first few shots. Not "VM-68 on siphoned CO2" cloud but enough to tell me there's a lot of energy being wasted out the barrel.

That's including the "lightened hammer"?

Have you tried dunking it in a tub of water? Won't hurt.

I haven't but this seems non-sequiter.

Some times leaks are completely inaudible. I suppose you can charge it with a fresh twelvee, and see if it stays put for a week.
Also, what doeas "non-sequiter" mean?

Nonsensical, out of nowhere?

Anyways, I'm pretty sure that a leak that is so slight as to be inaudible would have a negligible effect on 12 gram efficiency unless you're doing it over a course of hours.

DSA, I think high flow is the way to go with power tubes. Here's what I think needs to happen for idea efficiency:

-Low volume valve chamber
-High flow powertube
-High flow around the cupseal from the valve chamber (these inserts may be hurting efficiency here)
-avoiding losing liquid directly from the cartridge to cupseal.

I'm sticking by my idea of a miniature barb to help direct air away from the cup seal.

Russ, I always take a Dremmel to all my power tubes. I believe that wider outlet ports, and heavy valve springs would make a huge difference for CJ's Redux

I'm confident there's no leak in my gun. I can leave it gassed up for a week and it's still got a full charge of gas.

The cloud of gas from the barrel is only on the first few shots.

Regarding efficiency and my specific gun, R043:
- red main spring, blue valve (if I change this relationship and go lighter on the main or heavier on the valve, I can't reach 275fps)
- #6 powertube (high flow)

I just don't see how I can get around that combo. Any lower flow or shorter dwell and paint won't reach 275fps.

  • unmodified, unbored Redux valve (low-ish volume), check.
  • high-flowing #6 Powertube, check.
  • the valve chamber inside the insert has a relatively unobstructed path to the powertube. There's a millimeter or so of clearance between the cup-seal and the insert
  • the insert redirects the gas from the 12-gram to avoid liquid going direct from 12-gram to powertube ports

Give me some time to test this...
