Redux Constant Air (CA) adaptor development

A production version of the Sniper42 CA adaptor is up! It should work in the DD68 Redux, CIP Superstock and Carter Boxguns.

More details are available here, in Sniper42's interest thread:
Redux CA Adapter interest thread

First, I'd like to extend a HUGE "thank you" to two individuals:
  1. Sniper42 who took on this project and created a beautifully machined, functional prototype adaptor
  2. PMI 3 who not only tweaked the design to accommodate the Redux but fed me pizza while doing it

If Sniper42 decides to do a run of these, he has my endorsement vis-a-vis fit and finish in the Redux. The prototype is a quality product showing great attention to detail.

The original discussion on this topic was here: In grip CA adpt

Redux/Box Gun (maybe Carter?) Constant air adapter?

"Tip" refers to the gas outlet where the adaptor interfaces with the 12-gram pierce pin seal.
  • Length, from tip to base, EXCLUDING the "knob" is 120mm precisely.
  • Length, TOTAL, knob to tip, is 148mm exactly.
  • Length of the "shoulder" where it begins to narrow to the tip is 21mm precisely.

As discussed with Sniper42, the length could be trimmed by a few millimeters and the knob could be cut down as the adaptor is only installed and removed while degassed.
  • The first photo is of the adaptor being turned on a lathe by Sniper42.
  • The second photo is of the adaptor prior to tweaks by PMI 3. The "shoulder" is circled, showing interference with the inside of the Redux frame. (there was no way to know this without a test fit)
  • The third photo is of the tweaked adaptor, with the "shoulder" ground off by PMI 3

Nice work to all involved. I've been waiting on Steve-0 to get some of these done for a bit now. Cj will they be tweaking the knob to match the redux knob.

I've actually suggested the design match the "Duck Automag", a flatter, knurled knob similar to a speed wheel. The adaptor is ONLY installed while degassed so it doesn't need a large area to grip. By using a smaller knob, it doesn't stick out as far.

Here's a photo of what I had in mind:

Thanks everyone. As cjottawa said, we are still getting the kinks worked out. Once I have a final design that works and that I like, I will probably do a small run of these for those interested (if anyone else is interested).

DSA, as far as making it look like the stock plug, judging from the pictures of the redux knob, the grooves are round correct? I can do a hex, like on cj's or I can knurl it but I don't have any ball endmills that small.

I have just placed an order for 72" of 1.5" round stock 6061 aluminum to whip off a few of my own in my spare time. So this will be good, any one who whats one should be able to get one. nice!

Jeez, that is alot of stock.

Just curious, why did you get 1.5? Seems kinda large diameter if you are just going to turn it down.

Just to get some stick time as they say, plus I could used some soft punches for bearing removal jobs at work. And who knows maybe I will design a bba valve while I'm wasting my time. Be sides I got them to pay for the stock so I pulled out all the stops! Lol
