I have two favorite guns of all time, The Redux and the original Icon Z-1. That being said they are two totally different beasts. The Redux boasts a breech fed nelson transmission and the Z-1 an open bolt gas operated siphon monster. Where is this going? I know, I'll cut to the chase.
In reading many of the threads on modifications to the Redux breech I began to wonder sometime back if these two fantastic guns could possibly have something in common by way of a breech mod to the Redux. As seen in the photo the Z-1 sported a spring loaded nylon duel ball detent. Its sole purpose was that of a ball detent.
pictured is the Z-1 bore drop feed chamber with duel ball detents.
The Redux as we all know does not require a detent because the lip in the breech primarily keeps the ball in place and if the lip fails the freak insert captures the ball. So what gives? In an effort to raise the ball just a tad for a "quasi bore-drop" height, what do you guys think of adding just one spring loaded ball detent (which we will call a "ball raiser" for the purpose of this discussion) directly centered in the bottom of the breech where the ball naturally falls.
Its only effect is that it would raise the first ball 1/16-1/8 of an inch and created the bore drop level making for a smoother forward stroke of the pump by eliminating the need for the ball to clear the lip of the barrel breech. I am just curious what you guys think of the idea and we need a new topic for the week since I spilled the beans on the
