Duckslide & Redux: a comparison
If you have never heard of the Redux or Duckslide, please go here first: http://desertduckdd68.com/
In addition to a review I intend to write about the Duckslide for the Phantom, I thought I would post a comparison with the upcoming Redux. I realize that some of the pros and cons are subjective. You may disagree with some parts, and courteous remarks are welcome and encouraged. Naturally, it was easier to review the Duckslide since I own one, and harder to "review" the unreleased Redux. Hopefully the comparison is relatively unbiased.
Visual enhancement. Duckslide on left. Redux on right.
-Phantom under the hood
-Time tested design
-Modular design. Numerous upgrades available
-Parts readily available, and should be for a long time
-Several air input options: Vertical air, Dropout changer, backbottle, bottomline, Hawaiian style bottomline
-Compatible with Phantom SC feeds
-Added weight over stock Phantom gives some stability
-Superb stock barrel
-Ability to use detent rings
-Grip options: .45, m16, Lonestar, Eurogrip
-.45 grip block allows use of standard wraparound grips
-.45 block accepts CCI T-stock
-Slide shifts sc feed forward at rest. Allows larger capacity feeds without interfering with mask.
-Looks a bit tall with Phantom frame
-Tolerances seem a bit loose between Phantom and Slide
-3 screws to remove Slide
-Non-removable foregrip rail bulk
-Slow feeding. Balls drop much more slowly than SC Phantom.
-Aftermarket necessary for insert barrel
-Valve extends beyond the Slide at rest
-Learning curve to use/aim effectively
-Name requires lengthy history lesson, lol.
-12 gram in grip, much sleeker setup than Phantom options
-Slam change in works
-Offset stock class feed, allows sighting down entire marker. Advantageous for pistols.
-Detachable foregrip rail. Lighter, modern look.
-Quickstrip pin ala Desert Duck
-Insert based barrel standard
-Claimed compatibility with Phantom internals
-One sleek "package" Better refinement?
-Slider trigger. Gives high-end look and feel. Is preferred by many.
-Slide rests flush with the back of the valve
-Compatible with upcoming Boxgun external components
-Limited air supply options.
-Wider grip to accommodate 12 gram. Somewhat large for small hands? Does it fit standard .45 wraparound grips?
-Not yet "in the field" Still in testing.
Its great to see that this thread has made it to PBC! I'm hoping that more of those who have purchased the DuckSlide will post pros and cons too- I appreciate the feedback, and, as I have said before, the R&D on these products was made easier for me due to the constructive comments and suggestions given to me by the forum members, including MCB and SCP- Thanks all-- Steve "mOngo" Brett
I really like the look of the Redux over the Duckslide because of the 12g in the grip. I only use panel on my 45 grips so I do not mind if the wraps do not fit.
Insert based barrel? Do you mean it will take freak inserts instead of the phantom detents because the detents are good but the freak inserts are best.
I love the overall look and will be happy to see some out there being used. I don't know how many FL boys will buy considering not much SC play out here, but I will be picking one up for sure.
MrJr- my friends don't need to worry about getting on a list for the Redux I THINK I can put a few aside for the forum guys..... I think they are going to sell VERY well... and our goal at VKC is to build and SELL 300-400......... we have not taken any money at all for our pre-orders, but those who are 1st- are first, as I am a man of my word- but I have planned for more sales than just the first two batches...... and have additional parts built...........:D mongo
PS: I am going to try and arrange a TOUR of the Machine shop- VKC.. The Von Kampen Corp INC. This will be done so those who have questions or concerns with regard to THEIR marker, can see first hand what it takes to build a high end pump gun- I want those who would question price to PLEASE come and see why it is expensive..... I'd LOVE to host a tour and show the prospective buyer what he or she is gonna get for their money... Please email me at the site if you have an interest in this........ I'll make it happen.. mongo
that would be cool to tour VKC. i wish i didn't live on the other side of the country. maybe you could take some pics for us that can't make it that far. it would be a virtual tour type of thing.
anyways, glad to hear the news and can't wait to hear and see more.
Chad..... I'll do that! MOngo:D
sounds awesome mOngo...
I'm interested in the Box gun too...
