User Error

So as we all know some people (including me) have had issues w/ low velocity w/ their redux. This past Dec, I was finally able to get my velocity up to a consistent 280-290fps w/ a red-main, yellow-valve, and a modified Kingman Hammer PT (see post #80 in this thread: http://www.mcarterbrown.com/forums/r...el-guns-8.html)

Well, after a few outings w/ her at the local field, the Kingman Hammer cup/seal sprung a leak so I had to modify a CCI cup for 8-32 threads (really easy!)...

After getting the new cup and seal installed, the valve leak was fixed but I suddenly started getting sporadic velocity fluxuations that I just COULD NOT for the life of me figure out why. As it turns out, user error got the best of me again... this time it was due to my ability to only hold two things at once - the trigger frame in one hand and the hand-held chrono in the other!

Tonight I fired about 30 rounds over the chrono, when I noticed that the slide was shifting back ever so slightly just prior to firing because I wasn't holding the slide forward due to holding the chrono (ie: pulling the trigger back to the point where the trigger ramp makes contact w/ the sear, the entire assy. (hammer, compressed main spring, bolt, and slide) were all moving back about 1/16" before firing). I realized that this might be causing some efficiency reduction, so I grabbed my wife to hold my hand-held chrono for me, in order to free up my "pump" hand to hold the slide forward and prevent this slight movement, and vuala! It was shooting 270-280fps consistently! (paint sizing in around .679 thru a .675 insert)

I'm am still a little curious why w/ my set up it's not shooting faster considering I'm using the gigantic Kingman Hammer PT, red main, yellow valve, and stock 49gr hammer, and while I do feel sort of stupid at least for now it's shooting at a playable velocity.

I always throw my trigger hand's thumb up against the back of the slide while operating the one hand PITA chono. Whatever works right man?

I use a green main and yellow valve and get 40 shots above 260. My springs are thunder pig nelson spring if iirc. What springs are you using?

Oh I also use a lightened ASP phantom hammer with a open face tpc and a lapco cupseal.

Are you using a return spring?

Strech your return spring or get a stronger one...with reduxes and box guns I like to hold the pistol in a pistol grip, pull back the slide with your pumping hand, release it once it retracts fully, and at the same time continue moving that hand back until it forms a pistol grip. Once you do it a few times you get the hang of it! If bunkering though..it's up to you, probably a better idea to keep your hand on the pump handle if you need a followup shot. I should make a video hm

Chef, This is one of the ways I like to shoot my markers however I don't recommend this method for the redux. With the redux I have a feeling that is a sure fire way to chop a paintball. I would just cock it normally then bring your hand back.
