New to the flock - VKC Duck acquired

Through the course of a man's life he comes across certain objects that capture his attention. Objects like Shelby Cobras, fighter jets, and Abrams tanks are put on pedestals for their sheer awesomeness, and that certain hutzpah that says, "My representation of power, craftsmanship, and manliness is legendary." The Desert Duck has a place on one of my pedestals, and until yesterday, existed only in lore and pictures for me. I'm happy to report, that this is no more...

I'm the new owner of VKC Duck #51. Out of the box, it's looks and craftsmanship are actually better than advertised. I've owned a lot of markers and several of them have been high end markers, and nothing has come close to this. It's simply a work of art. I haven't put it down much since I got it, and I must admit that it slept on the night stand next to me.

I took it apart completely this morning to get to know it, and then grabbed some paint and 12ies and went shooting. I fired 400 rounds through it today, and am simply blown away. I've read all the posts from you redux owners about using the sights, but I confess that I never believed any of you. I owned one of the two iron sight squalls and those were just decorations. I used the sights on the duck and was hitting everything I aimed at. It's such an amazing feeling to get that kind of accuracy out of a paint gun. I'm a fairly accomplished real steel pistol shooter (30-30 hits in the Army with the M9) and the same fundamentals work with the duck. I have a tree about 40 yards from my back deck that I use for long ball practice and I hit that about 50% of the time with normal markers. I fired all 10 shots from the second tube I put through the gun and hit the tree with all 10. It was awesome.

I apologize for the length of this post but I'm still in awe right now. I typically whore through markers pretty quickly when they fail to meet my expectations, but so far this duck is not flying anywhere anytime soon. I plan on taking it to the field tomorrow and will report back with how we do. I'll also put up the requisite pics. Hats off to you Mongo, for bringing this thing to life!

Yes yes...

I got home too late to get any decent pics so I'll have to put some up later this week.

The first day out was good, but I had some issues that I think were due to the field paint more than anything. The event I played in was the Chili bowl at Xtreme in Millsadt, IL. It was 31F and windy when I got out of the car and there was about 3-5 inches of snow on the ground so it was a pretty chilly day. There was a pretty good turnout, and the game was a blast. The paint, not so much. I showed up a little later in the morning and when I went to get paint they told me "all we have left is Heat." I've never used this brand before but it was freaking tiny. It rolled through my .679 insert from time to time throughout the day. When I got home and mic'd it I got some that were .664 and .667. Some of it was in the .680's which explained the shots I was seeing. I use a stalker vest and had my 12gs on the vest throughout the day and was having low velocity problems. I started keeping the 12ies in my pockets and noticed a huge difference. We all know 12gs and cold don't mix well.

I got out twice and had 4-6 elims (I know I hit two people but so did a bunch of my team mates so its hard to say who got the actual kill) and was shot out twice myself. I also smoked a guy who didn't see me, and wiped it off while looking around. I plugged him again and he scurried out of his spot but I saw him a few seconds later firing away from a further bunker. My shots were nice and straight for the most part though I did get a couple fliers, which I blame on the balls, but otherwise the distance was much shorter than it should have been due to the velocity issues. I did get the valve squeak/pop for the first time when I was in the shiz and pumped it too hard. Scared me a little when it happened, but I didn't get that more than three times during the day. I was able to smoke a guy in the knee from a nice distance and was pleased when he shouted back "Nice shot."

I can't wait to play with this in warmer weather, but until then I'm ordering springs and bits and bobs to tinker with it.

Pics coming soon...

After the quiet winter it's good to see these making into the hands of some other members. I am anxious to see one in person. And I agree with CJ.....finally

LOL...

And I was just waiting for both CJ and DSA to post their welcomes before giving mine. So Welcome to the club... this forum has a WEALTH of Redux knowledge that I've taken full advantage of for the past two years (can't believe it's been that long already), and I'm sure you will too! Between CJ and DSA's knowledge/experience with the gun, there's not a question about the Dux that can't be answered.

Enjoy!

Thanks all for the welcomes. I just changed jobs and am in night school finishing my MBA so I won't be home during daylight hours until tomorrow. I took some pics, but I want them to be better and the outside natural lighting works better for me.

I've read almost all the CJ and DSA posts and am currently on page 24 of the Leprechaun valve discussion. I love to tinker and am new to Nelsons (had a phantom but left it stock) so I appreciate all the info here.

I'm glad to see you fit right in here, haha! Agreed with all of the above. I got most of my knowledge of them from all the good posts here. Lots of good folks with great ideas in the Redux section.

I hope she treats you well, good sir. I really like them, but #10 will always be my favorite Dux.

Here are the pics of #51. I tried to get some shots of the lower profile feed for you guys. I haven't owned a redux and this is my first gun with a moving slide and I haven't had any pinches yet with over 1000 balls fired so far.

I've got a pack of Thunderpig springs and a ranger PT and cup seal on the way, that I purchased from Bacci for tinkering.

Here you go:

Yeah, your pictures look a LOT better than mine. Those side profile shots really show off the two-tone gloss/dust finish. I kinda miss it now haha! It seems like it's gone to a good home though. Nice to hear you haven't encountered any pinching too! I'm glad Steve paid attention to how Dux users were solving that issue.

I'm glad she found a loving home, here's to many goggle shots!
