EDIT - this experiment failed. Don't try this on a Redux bolt. BACKGROUND I refer to this page: Stock-Class Paintball Network - NELSON PAINT COMPANY'S NELSPOT "007" I specifically cite this passage, in the "Modifications" section: "Grind and polish the top of the bolt so it forms a gentle ramp to pushes the balls back up the magazine when you cock the gun. This will reduce pinched balls. If using direct feed, ramp the bolt at the same angle of the feed elbow."I shoot a Redux which uses standard Phantom internals. I get some pinched second paintballs if I'm not cautious about my pump stroke or tilt. I wonder if the above mod would hurt or help. Courtesy Gogged Gurl, here's what the ramp looks like: ![]() Unfortunately, all it did was add a larger gap between the snub and the bolt, causing the second ball to drop farther and pinch more. Old NW Comps had this feature on the bolts. Doesn't seem to have caught on. My inclination is that if neither Colin Thompson, Mike Casady, nor Earon Carter have incorporated it into their Nelson based designs then I wouln't expect it to be terrible effective. However, I suppose only proper tests would prove the efficacy of the design mod.

I did it to a stock nelspot bolt, and it works as advertised. I didn't have the heart to do it to my LAPCO set and the first time out with those internals my gun looked like it was a bukkake star. It's only a problem if you are a crazy hamfist pumper.

Breech drop models seem more prone to pinching, however. I'm all for leaning on a low-tech solution like a ramped bolt to solve problems. Quote:

![]() *** *** *** I took the feed-block off the Redux the other day. There is a LOT of meat between the feed tube and the breech, even with the "snub 1.1 mod". I suspect this ramp could go a long way to eliminate second-ball pinches on that marker. I'll post photos of the port when able, to illustrate why this is such a big deal on breech-drop markers. | Boom. Yummy |
I like the idea of this. But I would want a test bolt to practice on first.
