Table Top Gaming, need advice (FoW, WarMachine, etc)

I got $150 gift certificate to Amazon.com for Christmas, and I am looking into getting a new game system. Any of you played Flames of War? I am really into World of Tanks, and naturally am drawn to FoW. I also hear great things about War Machine every so often. So here is what I am looking for:

Must be fun
I love miniatures (assembly and paint is great)
Not too expensive to get a small army for two people to play
can be board based or table top (looking at samurai battles, also)

I already have a nice 40k army, but am a few editions behind. If I can't find anything, I might just have to get the new spyder mag fed pump...

Go to your local games stores/hobby centers/comic book stores and see what is played frequently and often that you enjoy. DOn't buy into a game system that no one locally plays. Also... make sure that you get along with the locals that play.

When I was in college I played 40k... when I came back home there were very few people that played (they were still into the Magic craze and the newer Star Wars card craze) and those few that did play were older... very grumpy and didn't like outsiders, so I tried getting my friends to play... very few wanted to drop coin on their own stuff, but were willing to use my pieces. HAH! That didn't last long.

So.. make sure there is a player base for the game/s that you want to play and that said player base is accepting of new blood before spending any money on a game.

^This.

Not only does it matter what other people in your area are playing, but also who is playing it. If everyone is playing Warhammer, but you hate gaming with everyone except for a select group, and that group is only playing Flames of War, you're golden. Any RPG or tabletop wargame, no matter how badly written or priced, can be made much better by who you are playing it with.

As much as I like Warmachine, I have to agree with Schmitti. There aren't alot of players for it here, and this is where it is based.

Not worried about local people to play with. The store I usually buy at is 1hour away. I play with my brothers when ever I can get them to come over, and a few other friends (but I usually have all the stuff, so cheap is a plus).

You can't argue with that. Buy a Hammer, slap the mag in, rack it, and shoot folk.

i seen war machine played and looks good. but your better to find out what people are playing in your area. also check them out since you will find out more info on them. some times you might find that people that play there are not friendly or to young or to old for you. always good to find that stuff out. also by going to where they play at you might be able to find some stuff all ready made set up. so it will be less work for you. since some will sell army sets all done and made up. or find someone to help paint and make army up too. since some love to paint stuff all time.

Again guys, I just want to know what you have played, and is it any good?

you can probably find a group of locals at a shop or meetup.com
