Having a Problem with my Gargoyle

so heres the problem I explain in the video, when I aired it up to do a test fire, if I don't hold the pump handle it wont fire, when I pull the trigger it will just [ull the bolt back with it, I actually have to hold it forward to fire, which isn't a big problem but still inconvenient because I like to hold my 12 gram changer sometimes when I shoot, I replaced the bolt o ring, ive lubed it up, ive taken apart to see if theyres anything catching, and no luck. any suggestions? oh and this just started happening when I installed my freak bored phantom barrel on it, but that shouldn't be a problem right? id turn the volume up a little bit and sorry for the mess I was making my bed and waiting for the sheets to finish drying lol.

wonder if the freak insert is pushing against the bolt - there was a mod that some folks did to accomodate the insert - its here in the RTR forum with a diagram.

other possibility is the sear/hammer not engaging right

or even springs

but I would hazard try swapping back to a stock barrel and test - if it goes away its probably that insert

oh yea almost forgot - make sure your pump arm radius (distance) is right too - that can also cause an issue.

Huh, I've never had my Gargoyle do this, but my Redux does. It's caused by the angle that the slider trigger engages the sear. I've never actually tried to fix it on my Redux but I believe it could be two things 1) your return spring isn't strong enough (or is non-existent?) or 2) the spring on your sear is tight (from corrosion or something? just spit-balling) that it isn't compressing when the sear is engaged by the trigger.

I believe on the Redux, mOngo started changing the shape/design of the trigger so that it tripped the sear at a different angle, but definitely I wouldn't start dremeling your Gargy

Hope, maybe that helps bro

hopefully I wont have that problem on my redux coming in it is #27, hmm well the pump arms did help a little bit but the problems still occurring and I definitely think it has to do with the sear not tripping, should I just file it down? and if it doesn't work just order another sear? oh and the sear is the little lever on the bottom of the hammer correct?

Correct

I'd wait and see what Rodney says before removing any material from the stock parts; I'm sure he'll chime in soon enough

also, I think you'll have to order the entire hammer assembly (I don't know if CCI sells just the sear), but at least they're easy to come by and inexpensive... not like filing down a Carter sear only to find out you took off to much (I'm speaking from past experience... nothing like ruining part of a $100 set of internals w/ a dremel to make you go ...live and learn)

Yeah that's the only reason I would file it down just because it is easily replaceable and relatively cheap, alright I'll wait for Rodneys input also, thanks Steve!

Also quick note - it may be worth your time to send er in to Rodney for proper setup and a tune up? then when you get it back document what you see on the setup.

I do NOT recommend using a dremel on the sear - you can adjust the trigger in other ways first...

will see if I can find the write up later - fairly sure there was some good stuff right here... just busy atm

Does it work fine with the standard barrel?

Standard freak bored Phantom barrel didn't work for me. I had to have a barrel bored specifically for the Gargoyle. Super Stanchy did it for me, bored the barrel a little short, so that the insert sticks out the barrel about an inch. Then bored the Gargoyle "adapter" to accept the insert protruding from the barrel (about one inch). This smoothed everything out and I had no more issues with barrel breaks. Not sure if this can be causing your specific problem, but it is good to know in case you run into issues using freaks with your Garg.
