The concept of this game is to leave ALL of the strategy and decisions in the hands of the players. There are NO missions called in by a 'Central Command'. The players only need to know what scores points. So long as players follow the Safety rules of the game and the basic outline of the game, HOW they score points is entirely up to the player. BASIC CONCEPT The symbolic way of looking at it: The Portsmouth Trading Company, based in Portsmouth, is seeking raw materials to get back to Portsmouth so they can be manufactured into usable goods, like a table, chair, desk, boat, or what ever. The colonies are where the raw materials are. So it is in Portsmouth's best interest to find the colonies, obtain the raw materials and get them back to Portsmouth. However, once the colonies are established, they must be maintained, so the Portsmouth Trading Company needs to support the colonies by sending them manufactured goods. Now the Portsmouth Trading Company (PTC), at the start will most likely need help. This is where the Royal Navy comes into play. The Roay Navy will be hired by the PTC to escort some shipments to protect them from the Pirates, who obviously want to steal them. However, it is also possible that the Pirates will sell the PTC some goods that were most likely stolen. It is also possible that the Royal Navy, in an effort to support thier own existence, may keep some goods for themselves as thier fee is minimal. The "game" way of looking at it: Modified 7/21/09 The props in this game represent the raw materials or manufactured goods. They will be around 6 inches square of whatever material we happen to have available to us. A "manifest" will be created on an index card by the referees when goods are being transported by the players either to or from the colonies, who is transporting them, and are they escorted by the Navy. The creation of Manifests is the responsibility of the Portsmouth Trading Company as the Navy is essentially for hire and the pirates are.....well, they're pirates! In essence we are "recycling" the props. Rather than getting an unlimited supply of props, we use a limited supply and utilize manifests to track shipments. It is important for referees to keep track and sign off on the manifests as they come IN to the BASE they are monitoring. The refs also need to verify what leaves a base for continuity. It is in a players best interest to immediately ship out what they just delivered as SOON as they reach a destination and keep the props moving. Props left in the colonies or Portsmouth too long could potentially "spoil". This will be up to the referees. The PTC will have a manifest indicating the destination (colonies or Portsmouth), number of props, and if they are escorted by the Navy or not. The Navy will make certain that the manifest indicates if they are escorting goods for the PTC. If the Navy returns to Portsmouth with props and no manifest, that symbolizes the Navy seizing a pirate ship and their goods and returning them to Portsmouth for a profit. When a pirate steals goods they can sell them. OR...they can take the goods directly to the Isle of Grey to keep as profit or they can keep them in the Pirate's Cove. Selling them to the PTC means the pirates deliver the goods to the Portsmouth base. That is it! You don't make money unless you keep the flow of shipments moving. TEAMS AND HOW THEY SCORE POINTS Portsmouth Trading Company - They score points in 3 ways: * Successfully completing a shipment of goods to or from the colonies WITHOUT assistance from the Royal Navy. * Successfully completing a shipment to or from the colonies WITH assistance from the Royal Navy. * Recovering or BUYING goods from the Pirates. The Portsmouth Trading Company CANNOT get all the props and hold on to them indefinitely. They must be shipped out within 1/2 hour of receiving them or they will receive point deductions that are double the value of the points they just earned for each jug. This represents raw materials going bad or spoiling. Royal Navy - They score points in 3 ways: * Escorting shipments of goods to or from the colonies with the Trading Company. * Recovering Goods stolen from the pirates and returning them to Portsmouth or the Colonies. * Sharing Goods with the pirates at the secret location, "The Isle of Grey". NOTE: The Royal Navy receives additional points for locating the "secret" Pirates Cove (which is the pirate base). The Pirates, being pirates, can choose a new location for their base if they are discovered. Pirates - They score points in 3 ways: * Stealing goods and returning them to their Cove (Base). * Selling Goods back to the Portsmouth Trading Company at Portsmouth. * Sharing 'stolen loot' with the Royal Navy at the secret location, "The Isle of Grey". Each team knows only what THEY make on transactions. Each team does NOT know what other teams make on a transaction. Thus, the value of each transaction will not be listed here. FIRST DECISION AT ONSET OF GAME FOR EACH TEAM Portsmouth Trading Company - At the beginning of the game the PTC does not know where the colonies are. They can either look for them on thier own, or pay the explorer (who would be a ref) to tell PTC where the colonies are, thus starting the game in debt. This decision is made just before the game starts. Royal Navy - Thier base at the beginning of the game is Portsmouth, same as the Portsmouth Trading Company. The Navy will need to find and declare a secondary base of operations in case things change............and they will! There is no time limit for the Navy to determine this. It is up to them how they want to do it, but it can only be done AFTER the game starts. Pirates - The Pirates know the seas better than ANYONE or any team for that matter. They already know where the colonies are and where Portsmouth is. No other team knows where the pirates cove is (the cove being the pirate's base). Because of this first hand knowledge, the pirates get to choose where the Isle of Grey will be BEFORE the game even starts. This means they get to survey the field and pick the location. HOW ARE THE TEAMS CREATED? After the chronography and safety briefs are completed, the game will be explained to all players. At this point we will move to the speedball field for a quick “last man standing” game, if time permits. This is your chance to view the players in action, as they will be competing for a prize. After this game, we will come back to reload and prepare for the actual game start. Pre-existing paintball teams (with the exception of Ferrymen) will be chosen first. They will be auctioned and go to the highest bidder, and you are playing with a line of credit. You decide how far you go into debt to get the players you want. The unaffiliated players, and any teams not sold at auction, as well as Ferrymen players, will then be chosen in a draft format. The number of players you have purchased at the team auction will indicate the number of rounds you must sit out (e.g. if you buy a team of 5 players, your first pick will be in the 6th round) However, you may purchase positions in the draft from your fellow generals, or sell your draft positions for profit. When it is all done, there will be an equal number of players on each team. BACKGROUND STORY TEAM LAYOUT: TEAM: The Portsmouth Trading Company LEADER: Thomas Sheridan BASE: Portsmouth OBJECTIVE: To gain wealth by developing colonies and establishing trade routes. Ultimately by safely shipping raw materials from the colonies to Portsmouth, and manufactured goods and supplies from Portsmouth to the colonies. TEAM: The Royal Navy LEADER: Prince Wallace BASE: Portsmouth, and secondary as they choose OBJECTIVE: To gain wealth by providing safe passage to PTC merchant convoys, and from recovering stolen goods headed to the black market. Additional reward for locating the secret Pirate Cove of Skylarkin' Jim Dagger. TEAM: The Pirates of the Orange Coast. LEADER: Jim Dagger BASE: Pirate Cove (CLASSIFIED) OBJECTIVE: To gain wealth by intercepting shipments and bringing goods to the Pirate Cove. To cause shame and discredit to Thomas Sheridan by disrupting the activities of the PTC. The year is 1663. The small island nation of Orange, for years a remote, poor nation, has found new wealth and prosperity in the age of ships. A generation ago the rolling hills were dotted with thatched roofs and subsistence farms, and the only population center was a small fishing village at the mouth of the Orange River. Now the small village of Portsmouth has become a bustling port and thriving city. As European nations began sailing to the New World, Portsmouth's location southeast of Europe's Iberian Peninsula has made it a popular port for ships returning from the New World, and vessels setting out from Europe. Tons of raw materials now move through Portsmouth and many of the transatlantic sea captains have made Portsmouth home. Thomas Sheridan, once the owner of a small dry goods market in Portsmouth, has created a small fortune outfitting ships and distributing raw materials back to the European manufacturing centers. His company, The Portsmouth Trading Company now dominates the shipping business. Sheridan has developed a wide-reaching reputation known as much for his business dealings as his lavish lifestyle. While none would be so bold as to mention it in public, it is well known that Sheridan's rise was helped in no small part by providing substantial financial support to the aged King of Orange during a time of financial strain for the monarchy. In exchange Sheridan was granted many tax and regulatory concessions allowing him to virtually eliminate any competitors. Sheridan's lavish estate is known as The Palace in the pubs and dark reaches of Portsmouth. It is said that is where the true monarch lives, enjoying parties lavished with the exotic bounty of the New World, often entertaining the figurehead King himself. Sheridan enjoys his reputation as "a lady's dream and a competitor's nightmare." With Sheridans financial support, the King has established a naval force, led by his son and heir, Prince Wallace. Shortly after the establishment of this Royal Navy, Sheridan has struck a new deal with the King. The Portsmouth Trading Company will soon launch a fleet of vessels. Sheridan intends to establish colonies in the New World, owned by The Portsmouth Trading Company, to extract the vast resources of these far away lands. Sheridan has promised the King he will rise as a world power and rule the seas once all commerce passes through Orange. This can all be possible, Sheridan explains, with the protection offered by the Royal Navy. Reports of pirates attacking merchant vessels have increased in recent years, and each attack seems more viscous that the previous. Once merchants risked a boarding and the thievery of personal items and jewelry. But as the black market has grown (to avoid Sheridan's hefty commissions) the market for raw materials and bulk items have led pirates to seize entire ships, or to sink them trying. The name that all sailors dread is that of Skylarkin' Jim Dagger. The son of a 4th generation Portsmouth fisherman, Jim Dagger started out to sea as a young boy. Working on his father's boat, Dagger soon rose to a position of authority at a terribly young age. As a youthful First Mate, he witnessed his father's death when a line parted, dropping his father, the ship's Captain, to his death on the deck below. The crew, a rough and tumble group of seasoned Portsmouth fishermen, blamed the elder Dagger for the fall. The rope, they said, was not meant to support the weight of a grown man. Had "Skylark" not been so lazy, and gone up in the rigging himself, his father would still be alive, they said. They had never respected the Captain's son, and he had never proven himself in a fight, but the sight of his father's demise and this continued chiding from the crew brought out a dark side in Jim Dagger. Dagger killed the crew, tossed them overboard with taunting messages stuffed in thier mouths that were discovered when the bodies washed ashore on the beaches of Orange. Dagger sailed away, reportedly, to a secret island. It is here he is rumored to have buried his father twenty years ago, and in the decades since this mysterious "secret island' is said to be the home of Skylarkin' Jim's booty. Sailors say Dagger has mistakenly blamed Sheridan for his father's death, blaming the "cheap rope" for the accident. Sailors say that is why The Portsmouth Trading Company shipments are often the target of Skylarkin' Jim Dagger and his band of pirates, a crew of Portsmouths most feared thieves, murders, and scum. When a man has a grudge with Thomas Sheridan, it is said, he either learns to live with it, or he joins Skylarkin Jim Dagger |

We'll I still need a General for the Trading Company. IM me if anyone is interested. Field Restrictions: no ramping, no full auto. RT for Tippmans allowed. Game restriction: No radios, but bird cries are allowed! Turnout last year was kind of light. The weather and economy made turnout for the field on all games last year drop. Being a small field, we had 50 (which is high), but last year, we just made 30 for the event. For the rest of this season and all of next season we are going to try to push the field (marketing wise) harder. It is a great FLAT (always nice), field that has been around nearly 30 years. It is essentially a family run business, but Ken, the owner, has made so many nice touches and additions to the field....put it this way.....nearly every 20 feet is an ambush! You can see some photos at: Coppermine Photo Gallery - Home > Tigerstriipe Paintball - Keeseville, NY
