i hate all the sneaky espionage stuff. i think that all that complicated trickery really takes away from the game. if you have a good scenario team like i am fortunate to have, you dont have to bend or circumnavigate the rules. all that jazz is for sissies and players with low self esteem and bad ethics. makes you wonder if theyre like that in thier personal life. what a shame.

I only have issues with pushing the gray areas and dice throwing being worth too much. Nothing worse than owning the field all weekend to lose out on some mystery prop in the last hour.

I think Amoryl was referring to this.

last weekend here is what i had to deal with while trying to general and my recomendations made regarding these issues. perhaps you guys can use some of these ideas in your game.

tourney refs at a scenario game: theres gonna be problems. its two different worlds. even though the producer briefed them, they were still slacking and confused. my solution: dont address problems with individual refs. ask the problematic ref to radio his head ref or boss for assistance. this makes the problematic ref fear getting in trouble and do his job. explain to them that good refs do get awards for exemplary performance.

bad base refs: if your ref gives you missions late or just is not on top of the game, he may just be confused. i re-briefed a ref and then he was right on top of things. just give him a break down of whats up. i also will spend my own money to stock my cp with cold gatoraide and share it with my players AND the base ref. this makes him think you care about his well being.

bad calls: i see alot of refs that dont know **** about the scenario they are reffing. i.e. a satchel charge can blow a cp but a rocket cannot. i had a ref run into my cp and scream i was dead. as a general they would have got points for a cp kill and a general kill. i asked "what blew my cp?" he said a law and tried to get hard. i simply asked him to radio the producer to confirm. he was shot down on the spot and understood the rules afterwards. so again, rebriefing or going over thier head works. dont argue with them, just ask them to confirm with the producer.

stunts: before i pull a stunt like planting a demo or taking a cp or dealing with a prop, i will get a ref. if a ref dont see it go down, might as well have not happened. i will make sure the ref is making eye contact with me, explain my move and make sure he is listening to me BEFORE i attempt anything. that way, if there is any question as to the legality of what i am going to do, he can ask the producer. also, if your pulling airstrikes or remote stunts, make the ref physically go and tell the right folks. i pulled an airstrike that went bogus cause the opfor was monitoring the ref channel (illegally, see previous post) and fled the area when he called it in. they are getting paid to work for you, so they shouldnt have a problem taking a brief stroll.

refs working for the opfor: by giving away your position or any intel. not much you can do about a ref giving away your position when your running a mission at a certain location. they are supposed to be at the mission location when the card is handed out to observe and judge. i will ask, politely, if the ref can please back off about 100ft for us. if he does not, take the issue to the head ref. purposely giving away vital intel is a big no no. refs are not players and should keep thier mouths shut. if this occurs, get thier name and go straight to the producer.

Problem is it took their team all of 10 seconds to reach it, took us a few minutes to get all the way across field. By then they were so entrenched we had no way in hell to push them all the way back across the field in that short amount of time.

Didn't help either that our respawn ref was constatntly standing in the wide open firing lanes, so as soon as you tagged in, you got lit up by the other team. That whole battle was TOTALLY stacked against us.
Yeah you guys were one of those key teams and players that I was talking about. If it wasn't for you guys and the guys From Black Eagle Squadron, we would've gotten absolutely crushed. But yeah the entire final Battle was total BS.

As for the question of would the final battle result have made a difference? yes. It was set up to the point that the OpFor would eek out a victory by like 100pts if they won the final. regardless of them being behind by like 200pts going into it.

No, it's not the way it is. If your field has refs doing that then you need to look at who you are letting ref.

I for one am sick to death of players expecting everything handed to them because they payed to be there. I am sick of being called lazy because I refuse to bird-dog a hidden player because he's picking off players and they just spray an area and 'had to have hit him'. I am tired of having to educate every single player of the rules they were supposed to read.

And here's the real gripe I have. Players who take it upon themselves to 'educate' the refs, and the event promoter refuses to take action. Any player targeting a ref should be ejected. Period. No refunds, no excuses, no apologies.
