Just as who is the wiser when your dead and still talking on a radio? Or just telling co-players ('they're over there" "flank the left").

Which is why it happens and it's impossible to enforce/regulate.

Palmers Fan
talking with someone who isn't even on the field doesn't really bug me that much.
Heck, I've had conversations like...

player - "where are you guys, we're getting pushed back to the HQ"
me - "we're at McDonalds"
player - "damn, we're getting surrounded. Do you guys think you can hurry it up?"
me - "well, I don't think these people would like it if I cut in line."
(other McDonalds customers giving me strange looks after over hearing the radio chatter with gun fire in the background)
me - "so do you want us to pick you something up?"
(order food, get a table and eat)
player - "are you guys on your way back yet?"
me - "well, we decided to eat here since all the picnic tables in the staging area were taken"
player - "well there's only 10 of us here and we can't move off of our base because we're surrounded"
me - "that sounds about right, I think I count about 30 players here that are mostly on our side, and if there's a similar number at the Subway..."

anyway, no one was really taking that big game too seriously and it kind of flip flopped when all of the sudden the other side was taking a lunch break.
For the most part I avoid radios anyway. Just one more thing to drop and loose

Al,
It is hard to control, true. The basic rule used is till you cross off the field into either the hospital or staging area no com period! If your on the radio while walking off the field you get a punch. Once you arrive in either of these place have at it.

Not that they're everywhere on the field, but that's why there's a much higher percentage of refs on field than off field. There's a better chance of catchigng someone in the act.

it is very hard to regulate, I know, but the line should be drawn somewhere. I think the field boundries are as good of a place as any.

Personally I think barrel tagging goes against the main principles of the game. One of the main rules in paintball is NO physical contact between participants. Barrel tagging breaks that fundamental rule and encourages physical contact. So problem solved.. ban barrel tags.

If your good enough to sneak up and touch me with your gun, shoot me from 5 feet away. You put yourself at less risk of being noticed. Sorry paintball is a shooting sport.

VON- i would say barrel tag stays within the spirit of the sport, i think it has more honor then shooting someone from 5 feet. and you honnestly think that shooting draws less attention then a barrel tag? yes paintball is about shooting but remember the winner of one of the 'first game' did not fire a shot.

as to radio chatter while dead, as a player i will shoot them again... if they get mad, my reply is 'you were talking, so i assumed you were live. if you were dead you should not talk, now you are dead so shut it and get off the field.' as a ref nice and loud 'dead players do not talk, doing so could get a Badge Punch.' and that usualy shuts them up. it happens no matter how hard you try to prevent it, unfortunatly. yea i have heard other players put in McD orders in over the radio and then get a call back once the team gets back to field, it is funny.

Theres not much refs can do about cheating since players typically wont do it when there around. Refs rarely catch ppl wiping since the player will normally check the surroundings before doing so. But how mainy times have you seen someone cheat right in front of you while playing, plenty. Thats why i love the idea of refs in play (undercover refs) and support the practice.
The last big event i played in i witnessed a player laying next to me plainly wipe a hit off his mask, and then the player next to him got hit in the hopper and simply decided to ignore me when i told him. After witness this within the FIRST 30minutes of the game i decided to sign up to be a ref in play.

I only ended up punching a card once, which was when i told a player he was out and he walked about 20ft away wiped off the hits and continued shooting. Would this player have wiped this if a uniformed ref was around, i highly doubt it.
