A majority has to do with teams that Play skirmish a lot. Most of which I wouldn't even call a scenario.

I know many people from India and there the symbol has an entirely different, almost opposite, meaning and indeed in many parts of South East Asia. We're talking millions of people here. To us here and now it means one thing and in that respect it's well and good to ban it from events, but we're not the entire world either.

Let me put it to you this way, I know that in some parts of East Africa people use types of fruit to show their support for certain political parties. Yeah, I know it sounds somewhat silly, but then we haven't grown up in that culture and have no idea what a powerful symbol it can be. It's a huge deal sometimes, like kill you big deal, but does it matter much to you here and now?

Is EMR in India or Pennsyltucky?

Also, Which one of these symbols brings to mind horrible atrocities of the past and which one does not?

The similarities are there, but there is no question which is which. And only one of them is clearly offensive to Modern Western culture.

Yeah, but they don't adorn theirs with iron eagles or crossed rifles.

I was simply pointing out that it's a euro-centric viewpoint. It didn't spoil an "entire" generation.

The swastika in the context of the Nazis means one thing and once again, it's all well and good that it's banned from EMR here and now but it's still just a symbol. It only means what it's attached to. It's good to remember that it's the ideology that's bad, not a collection of lines arranged in a certain way.

It's not the symbol that's being banned, it's what it represents in context.

Works for me. I don't care which way you think it is banned or what way it represents. It really has no place at a game. There are plenty of ways to play dress-up as a German w/o using all the nazi stuff.

A sophisticated & thoughtful viewpoint - refreshing to see on teh intarwebz. I'm impressed to see your objections to the subtleties while still agreeing overall with the shorthand being used in the discussion.

...says the guy who started out with a quintessentially "intarwebz" graphical response...

With regards to the use of the Maltese, Balkan, or other Iron Cross versions, I believe they are considered "de-nazified", at least by the German government. I know that the current Bundeswehr uses a blue Iron Cross as their logo. If they are fine with it, I think it should be considered acceptable to use. Plus, in the years since WWII, these crosses have become more or less acceptable in society, especially when compared to the Swastika.
