It's like stories from 'nam. Both sides say they could smell the enemy before an ambush. The VC said they could smell our bug repellent (I believe the hell out of that, nasty stuff) and our guys said you could smell fish on the VC.

No matter your role (which is determined by your paper character card), you only get one laminated player card. That card will be the color of your team. So if I show you a green laminated player card, I am on the green team no matter what. The only thing that might change beyond that, is that I could be a spy/saboteur/medic for the green team. None of which require me to walk way the hell back out into the parking lot to get some green tape on my arm.
We tape at the base, on the field. if you have your laminated card (dog tag, most people have them attached to a lanyard) we allow you outside the base. If you don't have the "Proper" role players card, you don't get taped. Finding the laminated card is easy, people drop them, lose them misplace them all the time. But the role players card is basically your 2nd ID. If you do not produce one with the other, we will not tape you and you will be considered a spy until you produce one or the other as a set.

Spies usually don't have any tape, medics have two armbands, one is team color, other is white, both on the same arm. Saboteur,/demolitions/engineer/soldier, team color, role player card determines class.

When you register for the game, you can ask what roles are available. Medic is one of the more popular ones because you can heal your players if they get into a firefight on the field, unless it's a headshot, then they have to go to tag back in.

The Generals are usually recruited by the promoters. The general then picks his XO/radio operator and base security. Essentially, the XO is supposed to be the 2nd in command if the General has to leave the field for whatever reason. As far as roles, the General may ask certain people to be his private guard, so essentially, you would be his personal medic as well. Also, the General may assign people as spies or pick from volunteer's. Spies are usually picked based on experience.

That's all very good information, thanks for sharing. I may roll Medic next year. It seems like I'm always in the thick of it and there's never a Medic around anywhere.

This is for you guys that was asking about the spy who was a ref - go to the 6:00 mark of the video, where he mentions the spies. Seth, the guy in question can be seen a few seconds later in the background, to the left wearing a green Empire jersey and sporting a a manly beard for a 17 year old guy. This is what he wore all weekend, no ref colors or orange vest -

2012 Grand Finale Award Ceremony - YouTube

The guy that wore the orange vest was the spy who picked up the T-shirt as his award. We only know him as Charlie. That is all we know about the dude and he was everything General Mark said he was.

It sure sounds all secure and stuff, but there are so many loop holes, I don't even know where to start.

1) You are using standard colors of tape that can be bought at the store. Anyone can just tape themselves.
2) You are using colored paper anyone can buy at the store. The cards aren't even being read. When I used my buddies role card, it was folded into 4ths, I just showed the color.
3) You aren't recording player numbers when you tape. I could swap role card and player card with my buddy on the other team, we both get taped, swap cards, change jackets and then both get taped on the other team again.
4) Nobody checks after the first time: Hey, I decided not to wear my jacket, can I get taped on my t-shirt?

You aren't going to stop anyone who wants to be sneaky. All you end up doing is being a PITA to the legit players who might have forgotten their role card and already stood in the 100 person line because god forbid there be more than 1 person taping people.

I've played at plenty of scenarios that didn't have role cards, all without issues. Heck, some of them didn't even have player cards, they just told you what team you were on when you signed in. IMO - its going a bit overboard on the chance that someone might have dropped their laminated card.

Our tape is special ordered online, and we popped about 6-7 guys trying to pass off store bought tape. It was a brighter shade of green then ours. It may work once in awhile, but not always. Also, if you get caught with another teams tape (as in roll) you will be escorted off the property. If this becomes an issue, we will resort to other types of armbands being used, like custom armbands from our sponsors. Good luck reproducing those.

I guess you missed how I caught the 2 Trailgunner spies, as I actually did read the cards presented, one was legit, one wasn't. You may have gotten away with it, but it wasn't with me. I made everyone take them out and open them. If you came in with a blank card, I would have had command call the office and have your player# checked and then had you leave the field and go back to the office for a new one.

Player numbers are irrelevant unless there is a specific issue that needs to be addressed. Yes, you could swap clothes, but if your not a spy (assigned) and get caught with another teams tape, you will be judge punched and receive negative points against your team. Only Spies are allowed to have each color of tape.

You would still need both ID"S to get new tape. I checked all three times we re-inserted Saturday day, Saturday night and Sunday morning. If you needed new tape, you produced 2 ID"S or you didn't get taped. Saturday morning was different, the XO and I both were taping players, if he didn't check your ID's that was on him, but I sure as hell did.

I would rather you cry like a spoiled brat and me be a PIYA while I did my job, then lose our base or General because I didn't.

Opions are like a#s*&^%$, everyone has one and since it was my *** on the line, yours didn't matter BTW, thats the difference between a Wayne Dollack scenario and everyone else's, attention to details is what makes his more unique.

These are all percieved loopholes. In reality, they aren't so. I can vouch for the effectiveness of the way things are done. Can someone sneak through? Yes, but it's always been that way and it's part of the draw to playing these games.

Scenario games have always been about looking for ways to outsmart the other team and other players. IMO they used to be a lot more fun before the "big game" format started leeching over into Scenario. It's about being creative and having fun.

It seems that this mindset of taking things too seriously is becoming more and more prevalent. I think that sucks.

Man, I guess you are really missing my point. I have NO DESIRE to do any of that crap. I just want to show my card, not wait in a 100 person line, get my tape and play the game. As do the VAST MAJORITY of players. Only a very small percent want to be crafty and distort the game, but the entire 1000+ players are being made to jump through hoops for a few people. The notion that it can't be circumvented however desperately makes me want to do it, just so I can say I told you so.

And I just want to make sure I understand the way things are issued for spies, as I said, I've never played one, so that could be a cause of misunderstanding. But this Trailgunner spy with the faux character card, he also had the correct color laminated card to match his fake character card?

I don't know who you were there. But I was there. I walked up and only had my laminated card. I got sent back to my car, and I made a bit of gruff about it with the general. I promptly walked 10 feet, took my buddies card. He ran up, said I ran back to the car, asked if I could skip the line since I already waited in it once. General said yes. I walked up, showed him the character card that was still folded into fourths, and I got taped.

On Saturday, I most definitely got taped by our general. On Sunday morning, I got taped, again by our general, on my T-shirt without showing either my laminated card or my character card. I asked if I needed them again, and he said no, he remembered me.

Lets just hope you weren't the green general, in which case this notion that you were 100% thorough is an utter lie.

I guess if using logic makes me a spoiled brat, then so be it. But as you have so readily pointed out for me, all the methods of circumventing the team assignment and bypassing the taping process are against the rules and can result in a card punch, then we can't very well lose the general to someone breaking the rules now can we?

I agree with that, but keep in mind that attention to detail and anal retentive are not the same thing.

I think the ID and taping process went entirely overboard for a game, you think it was justified. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Finale is 12.5 months away, your welcome to try.

No he had a green dog tag and a yellow card that was water damaged.

If you got sent to your car, that was me. Mark was upstairs in the command shack and the only two people taping Saturday morning was Me and the XO, when the XO's tape roll ran out, he did as well, leaving myself to do all the taping from that point on. If you got taped by someone with camp gloves and an Empire jersey, it was myself.

I never took a folded card, all were asked to open to verify they said "Guardians" on them.

Saturday it was me or Marcus, the XO, but I was late Sunday so that may have very well been Mark.

I wasn't the general. In one of the video's, I believe it was the one Lead-Foot made, you can see myself taping a teamates arm with a guy in a t-shirt standing behind him. @ the 4:26 mark, that is me taping players.

I agree

edit: there was only one team we allowed on the field without proper credentials, and that was T.A.G. and the only reason was their paperwork was screwed up from the online registration when our host server went down. If you are a T.A.G. member, then your team was the only one that was given a free pass.
