Viper rules state that anyone can use a rocket launcher; GRSP states that only demos can use them.

I should know, I was one of those running around on the Total War side with a dedicated launcher.

It allowed around 15 of us to stall 2 whole fresh inserts and most of Blue's Crew over by the castle tapeline at one point.

I understand the basic reasoning for scheduling games on holiday weekends... hey, almost everyone is off work. However, there are those of us that look forward to spending those weekends with the wife and kids. The weekend after a holiday weekend would be much better. The family gets the holiday, which cleanses the pallet for the inevitable "Hey I'm going to head out to Blah, Blah paintball field next weekend."

Holiday weekends are more expensive and it is also more difficult to get plane tickets.

Tell her that's what Mother's Day, Valentines Day, your anniversary, and all the other ones are for.

But, in truth, you'd have to talk to Blue about the schedule...I'm just the hired help.

With regard to Nerfs, I used to let anyone use them as they weren't as common as they are now.

However, after the Dredd game, our latest version of the "Official Viper Scenario Rules" requires that users of Nerf launchers must have a "Heavy Weapons Specialist" MOS card. These are limited just like medics, snipers, etc...and assigned by the commander.

Nerfs are for shooting tanks. If'n you want to eliminate all the players in a bunker well then you ought to have to go and flush them out with a paintball gun.

I don't mind if a tank is going to shoot at and eliminate entire bunkers but having individual players eliminating structures with one shot is just annoying and detracts from the game I like to play.

Of course, I feel the same way about "sniper cards" and "airstrike/bombardment cards".

The last Viper game I played, it seemed like every time I got myself in a cool and defensible spot with a good field of fire, some ref would come joggin up and tell me that I had just been "shot" by a "sniper" or blown up in an airstrike. This was happening to Craig and Glenn as well.

Me, I am all for playing with milsim guys and using military terms for everything, but if you are going to try and simulate actual combat with such crazy artifices, then I will eventually pretend to be a civilian bystander waiting to be crushed by the contagion of war.

Hey Viper I know... The post just happen to land in a thread of yours... it was more of a broad statement on holiday games in general.

First off, you need to realize that Living Legends was a Viper/Dollack game. It came togther in a fast and furious manner, and included contributions from both of our formats. I rarely include airstrikes for the same reasons you stated. I would prefer to be eliminated by a paintball when I play as well.

Snipers are something I put in simply to add a little element of realism so that field commanders stll feel the need to keep their heads down. Alot of that was inspired by my own experiences as a field commander, where I'll back off to just outside effective range and then work my way up and down the line I'm running and look for weaknesses to eploit in the enemy line, and then organize my guys to exploit them.

I remember walking back and forth out in the open thinking how impossible this would be in a real battle.

So I added "snipers." There may be 60 sniper shot eliminations in an entire 26 hour event. That's only 30 per side. When you consider how many regular eliminations there are per game that's a pretty low ratio. And with only 30 shots, if you are getting taken out, repeatedly, by snipers the enemy must view you as quite a threat. Take it as a compliment.

However, at a regular Viper event you will rarely, if ever, see airstrikes. Not to say I haven't used them on occassion, but they're not a regular part of my events.

I'll say that at my first Viper event,(EMR-06) I ended up with a sniper mos. this happened by chance of me being at the command post alone with our general, and a heli coming our way. He handed me a sniper mos card and a sniper bullet, and I was able to use the bullet on the heli pilot, saving our base from being overrun before the next insert. Then, he gave me a "snipe the command post" mission and another magic bullet. This meant all I had to do was get within range of the base and find a ref for mission success, which I was able to accomplish(by sneaking up behind enemy lines and one-balling several players, most of whom never even saw me after I . I must say it made the game a lot of fun for me. And besides the heli passengers, who were using a similar "scenario rule" to drop in on us as I did to take them out, the really wasn't any reason for anyone to feel cheated out of the game.
Just an example, imo, of how "sniper" and similar cards can make the game fun without taking anyone's fun away.
PS, I was unable to get anymore magic bullets for the rest of the scenario, as our supply was too limited and ran out. So popping folks for giggles was out of the question.
