There was some debate over that... I remember for a fact, MJ from Pub (who were leading the attack) held on to the sword, the last prop of the day, for awhile before he turned it in. He told us there was no point in breaking the record because that game would always have an asterisk next to it, because it was all pumps. I also think there was the added bonus of pounding the defense into the dead zone... but I can't say for sure.

So maybe you're right. Anyone else have an opinion how this should be recorded?

I don't really think it should have been asterisked, I seemed to remember a huge amount of custom shop buisiness for pneumatic assisted pumps as soon as it was announced that castle game was to be pump only defense. As to how many were actually used, it's kinda hard to tell. I wasn't there. Sure as hell wanted to be. It was the first one where I watched the boards obsessively to see how it turned out.

I do know on the other hand that if everyone was at least using direct feed it would be possible to hold out longer than that, I've been known to dump a whole case of paint in one day with a non-autotriggered pump gun in one day. Matter of fact, this past may when the local field had a pump only day I went through fifteen hundred rounds.

we need to find and scan the add that ran in Paintball News before Castle VII

it was a 2 page spread that read a little like this:

"Can you take this castle?.... DAMAGE SAYS NO!!" it was a great add...we should try to find all the old Castle adds for this thread.

I could be totally off but I do really thing Blue stating the record wasnt broken during the pump game.

And that game was god damn hard on me... I was running around with my only open classer, a sniper I built days before from a former rental gun, and I clearly remember being one of the few people doing death runs out of the door towards the bitter end.... right before the game was called myself and an asian fellow with a SC phantom and a red hawaiin shirt pushed out shot one guy each got blasted and heard the horns.... we laughed a little then it sank in we lost.

So many of our fellow pump defenders showed up with friggin' SC guns and ten-round tubes.

If EVER there was a time to set aside the ninja gear and prepare for a slugfest, that would have been it.

I wish there HAD been a run on pneumatic assist pumps...

That would be a lot of fun! I'm not sure it would ever happen but I do think it would be fun

Pump attack... or whatever...

with the spring Castle bringing 1300 for the past two seasons, I may be a little quick on the draw, but I'd like to see a shake up in the game.

For the most part they change something in the castle each year, but (spending money that's not mine) some sort of major expansion that benefits the defense while changing the odds to 5/1 or 6/1. Anything that puts a successful defense out of reach for another 3 or 4 seasons, would be nice. Defensive strategies would need to drawn from scratch because of the odds and with the change in lay out, the attack wouldn't be able to follow the same ol' path.

That's really why I think the game has the player base it does. For the longest time a defensive win seemed impossible. Teams were lining up and getting pummeled, all for the shot to be the first; JF failed twice before we got the win. It happened, then someone else got it... then last year, the defense won at both games. It seems like now it simply a matter of having the right group assembled and some favorable weather.

Hey Balz,

I found that patch I was telling you about. It says "Adventureworld" and "First Annual Castle Siege" and "Rock 'N Roll Weekend with Triple XXX".

The date is 10-2-93

Also, in my humble experience, it seems to me that everytime the defenders win or come close to winning, then either the rules are changed or huge holes or ramps are added to the structure in order to try and prevent that.

Blue would prefer that the Castle fall every time it gets played.

Makes for more happy customers.

That's cool...

Now, a follow up questions. Do you recall how often the Castle Seige was played, was it just in the fall... and was it run in '94 & '95?
