Viper Combat Challenge - August 2nd & 3rd, 2008

The "Viper Combat Challenge" is inspired by the groundbreaking 2002 USA Network reality series “Combat Missions” offering a step up from normal scenario play with more realistic props and situations, as well as a chance to compete against other scenario teams in tests of skill, speed, tactics, and technical abilities. Five-man squads work as a unit, undertaking a variety of operations, or "ops" based on real-life tactical situations regularly involving Special Forces units around the world.

The antagonists at each objective will be the same throughout the exercise, have the same amount of ammo, and will be running the same strategy every time. In this way each squad will face the same situation as they face each op. The OpFor (Opposing Force) known as "Shadow Company" will be headed by none other than the infamous Lawrence "TB" Wright of scenario team Thunderstruck. TB is a veteran Recon Marine of "Desert Storm" and has served as a Staff Sergeant of U.S. OpFor training forces. He will be assembling Shadow Company using hand-picked players from various scenario teams. The goal of the Shadow Company squad at each mission is not to win, but to serve as an obstacle. There should be few times, if any, that a competing squad fails at their mission.

Each competing squad will face ten missions, as well as two bonus missions. There will be five missions during the day Saturday, three Saturday night, and two more on Sunday.

Here are some of the missions: (Missions subject to change)

PHASE ONE: SATURDAY
1. Bomb defusal: Defuse a timed explosive device before time runs out!
2. Hostage rescue: Hostage being held by terrorists. Get him out alive.
3. Retrieve case: A case filled with top secret materials has been stolen. Bring it back!
4. Classified

On Saturday there will be two bonus missions for individuals to run whenever they choose during their squad's "downtime." These will consist of a running target range and a stationary target range. Once all five squad members have completed a bonus mission the lowest member's score will be dropped and an average calculated. This will determine the squad's score for the mission.

PHASE TWO: SATURDAY NIGHT
5. Retrieve ???: You will need to go into the A.O. and find the item described (it will be well-marked) and bring it out. Enemy troops may be in the area.
6. Plant bomb: Your team will need to plant a timed device on the objective.

PHASE THREE: SUNDAY
7. Downed pilot extraction: Rescue the downed American pilot.
8. Tank take-out: Take out a moving tank with a LAW (provided). Watch out for infantry support.

Total scores will be tallied on Sunday and the winners announced. The winning squad will receive a trophy (this will be up for grabs at the next competition) and individual plaques that they will take home with them. The second and third place squads will also receive a squad plaque.

Pricing will be as follows:
Admission: $225 per five man squad ($45 per player)
Event paint only: $65 per case
Air: $15

* Large teams may enter more than one squad.
* There will be no substitutions or alternates. Scenario is a 26 hour game. Players who become tired or injured early cannot support their team's efforts on the field. Therefore, if you lose a player you will be forced to continue the competition without them.

So far here's what we have in the prize package

Well...somebody has to!

There is little that is original and unique in scenario anymore. 80% is someone else's event or format that "the new guy" is recycling.

You gonna be at the Finale this year? Wayne is the original after all.

I should be at the Finale. However, if I end up moving north for a job it could change. But as of now I am committed to the finale, but I don't think I will have any kind of command role. I need a break...

You going to come down this time?

That's the plan at this point...with more Texans in tow.

Wow...did I just hijack my own thread?

Yes, but it is a worthwhile cause.
'
You know, I really did like that tv show. I would really love to get a game with the MILES gear. I think that would be really ground breaking to do. I am really digging this idea. I wish my guys could make the travel but they have other things scheduled, I will talk to Johny and see if we can pull a squad between TrailGunners, ARES, or one of our other sister teams but it is doubtful. However, I myself might be able to make it. I have enough airmiles to go anywhere. My schedule is still chock full of obstacles but I would like to check this out. Not sure if TB might need an alternate player.

What would be the nearest major airport and how far are you from it?

I won't set foot in the great state of Texas, but I wish you all the luck, Viper.

Glad you finally found the best place on the web to reach real 'ballers.

Cheers and welcome.

DFW would be the closest major airport. I'd suggest Love Field over DFW Int. Smaller and easeir in/out.

And, Drum, what you so afraid of in Texas?

Why, Texans, of course. What else is there to be "afraid" of in Texas?

Heck, I won't even eat in restaurants whose names pay tribute to Texas or her towns and cities.

It's a personal prejudice, I guess.

Still, I always like to see you, Viper. That is how I know you are not a native Texican.

I'm really hoping for this game to be a huge success...
...because it needs to happen again in '09.

I can't make it down this year, money is tight. However, my crew will be winning it all next season.
