Sounds like the general didn't have a very good strategy going into the game to me!

On the main topic:
So what themes would you the players like to see?
I am more inclined to the funny games (MP Quest, Austin Powers, etc...)

More of what you have already played?
Quest for the Holy Grail
Nothing better than not being able to shoot because your laughing to hard to aim!!

Something new?
Always game for something new.......NEW not re-runs!

Would you go to a game that was not based off of a popular movie or book series?
Sure! See above!

How about something totally original and unique?
When and where?

Now I have an idea what goes into these games and know that MY preferences are hard to adapt to game play as well as there are very limited story lines out there to base them on. I often find a non main stream book or movie that I think would make a fun game, but when suggested the logistics of structuring a game based on it often blow holes all in it.
Then there is always the fact that if it is book based getting 100, 200 or more people to read the book so they have an idea what is or is supposed to be happening is just about out of the question. I have seen several games that were based on movies where players that didn't have a clue (and this became a problem on/off field) about why someone was able to do something a little off the beaten path if you will just because they didn't take time to look into the story line. I have been guilty of this when it comes to "game" based games as I am not a big computer gamer, on a scale of one to ten I would be a -5! The difference in me and others is I take time to read the game story-line and don't tend to "torque off" if something odd happens....I just ask a ref or producer about it and live and learn.

I actually wrote a Big Game/Scenario hybrid game several years ago based on Corporate Wars between [tongue and cheek ] "Macrosoft" vs "Blue Hat" for dominance of the computer OS lawsuits. The idea was good and worked but I was unable to pursue of the ideas I had for the game. The premiss was to start with this one game that lead to a series of games based on corporate disputes.

Old West/Civil War themes are good.
Early 1900s Mobster themes are also fun.

These allow people to make some interesting props, dress the part easily, and gets away from the typical "war" scenarios.

It was a great strategy for winning points.

I love the Mobster Themes games .

Some other themes:

- Moonshiners vs G-men
- [Gold Rush] Prospectors vs. Claim Jumpers
- Warriors [from the great movie "Warriors" ]

Warriors come out and play Warriors?

I was actually talking about that the other night. Battle through all the other teams across a field.

This would be a very awsome MOUT site game or a field which is heavily built up.

No matter what the format is or the theme of the game, please keep the game [that which can win or loose the game] on the field. Too many times have I played hard along with many others at a game to come and find out the game was won or lost because of some roll playing deal taking place in the parking lot or staging area. I have nothing against role playing and I've done it myself I just feel that the role playing and in that case all play belongs on the field where everyone can be involved.

The same should go for props too. Once a prop is put into play in a game it should have to stay on the field and not stored in "personal" bags. If I overrun your base and you have probs there I should be able to steal said props and visa versa. If a team or member of a team takes a prop out of play during a game I believe that team should be penalized.

I agree. Having been in all sorts of deals, privy to deals, and watched deals, it should always be on the field. Well I don't mind the staging area because it is easy to breath and talk. But none of that should be able to steal a game.

The only time props should be removed is when the game is off. No one likes waking up to missing props.

I can however see in special cases like Scraps Battle of the Bands or at Iron Forge where their was a Bank/Auction House. Bother would/where neutral areas. Unless the field/producers are going to go to the trouble and expense of setting up a huge safety area in the middle of the field to protect the players and equipment from getting shot.
