VM-68 Valve removal...

Is this done by removing the ASA first or by going through the back after you'ver removed the hammer and bolt? Once you get there, how exactly do you remove it? I want to polish my guts and replace the valve o-rings and cup seal.

Take it out by the back after the bolt and guts have come out and the two screws are removed. Do you have the tool to remove the valve? If not, in the past, shaking it up and down over a blanket always got mine out. Always worked for me. Just an idea, good luck.

The tool is just a 3/8" coarse thread rod, right?

Yes, a 3/8" bolt (or ready rod) will remove the valve.

Well, a 3/8ths screw with a hole in the middle, like a cocker or sheridan tool...If you want to split hairs. As far as my experience goes, getting it out is easy and can be done without the tool. BUT getting it back together was pretty much impossible before I aquired the tool. It's a pretty simple design, so making your own should be pretty feasable.

Yea, putting the valve back in without the tool is a pain, it can be done, but man it's a pain. Have fun putting two paper clips inside where those screws came out to line the valve up right. Oh memories
