Very clever idea. What tool is that you're using? Looks almost like something that chucks up in a drill for other purposes.

it is 3/8 size for the sheridan face seal. The punch is shafted in a 1/4 quick drive chuck. You can put it in a drill and spin/cut through the material or hammer it through.

well guys when i started this project last july, the biggest concern i had about it was the durability of the cheap material i was useing. The material served its purpose, to see if it was feasiable to make my own seals.

I may have found my answer now right after i got other testers involved. The first gun i put one in (a pgp) is starting to show signs of deteriation. Its been in there since july, and i have put almost 60 12g through it.
On sunday i pulled it out to test a full dump, half dump, see is third would seal, as was suggested. Before i started i looked down the valve tube and noticed that it looked like a large chunck was missing from the installed seal. I figured it was going to leak so i put a 12g in and it sealed just fine, so i dumped it, and put the next one in thinking that surely blew that seal out of there, the second one sealed to my surprise. I shot about 12 shots and dumped it for the third. The third still sealed with what looked like 1/4 of the seal missing. I am kinda surprised it still sealed, the only thing i can figure is since the material is so soft it must me flexing in to place to seal even with holes.
I will take the face plug out this afternoon to take some pictures of whats left.

you sure the 'missing chunk' wasn't just frosted over? a frosted over seal may give the appearance of a chunk missing.

I tried it with a pink ribbon bracelet and it only lasted for about one 12gram. It was much too soft and squished out the sides.

well i took it out and this is what i found after 6 months of use.
Mind you strangely enough it was still sealing....

I know it looks like it shouldn't work but it still did, i assume only because of how soft it is the material would spread under compression to still seal.

If noting esle it is a quick and dirty Mcgyver alternative if you find yourself in need on one the night before a game and can't wait on the mail.
