If the seat has rough edges on it like mine does, the it should be taken care of. Problem with me I no longer enjoy tinkering like I did before... Even though this pgp isn't even mine. $20. Into it now, but I have achieved my goal which was to free it up from a very sticky situation. The hammer lug screw wouldn't budge though, and snapped off. Bough a new used one from here, and it's back in business after 30+ odd years lol. These antiques will outlast anything.

Take a self tapping scew and one of the nut drivers that accept a rachet, break the plastic from the nut drive so it will fit in the tube, then use a extension, use pressure and turn, this will screw your self tapping screw into the co2 cartridge, once it threads on pull the whole thing out

It's also important to note what's causing the problem... Bad carts, or a pierce valve replacement.
