co2 shooting kp2

ive got a little project kp2 and i need to build a rod to extend a pgp fast changer.
so i dropped a 12ie in the tube and out it shot!
not super fast but enough to startle me.
it just barely pierced it do you think that means it has insta pierce?
it has a new face seal in it so i cant see where the length of the valve would be shorter to produce these results
ive never bought a kit or seen what insta-pierce innards look like.
after tearing it apart and comparing what palmers sent me marke pgp repair kit. the lengths look real similar i didnt use calipers or anything.
in hindsight i should have just dropped in a spent 12ie to find my length....
thanks.

Out of curiosity, what are you using for a rod? (I want to build a 12g system for my KP3)

on a shoot-to-pierce, the piercing rod is at the end of the valve stem in front of the cup seal, and in the closed position is located behind the face seal. it would be extremely odd for the piercing end to be out front of the face seal and to peirce the 12g as you described. Ive never seen an instapierce either, but I assumed its juts like a bucket changer's pierce pin.

i see what youre saying wb.
i think its probably just stock if the insta looks different.
its the first time ive had one opened up since last winter im a little forgetfull.
its almost like not enough space is being taken up between the valve seal and the face seal to let the point stick out to far.

when you pulled everything out of the lower tube did you have all of this stuff? (minus the valve stem of course, dont know why its not included in the pic):

Sheridan Valve Assembly and Other Tech Links

the only thing I can think of is that maybe the brass sleeve is either shorter on yours or not the stock sleeve? try the palmers pgp valve stem next and see if it does the same thing (pointed in a safe direction of course lol)
