Powdercoat Fail

Yes, I do powdercoating:
Rats-Oven went haywire on me and temp went up to 600 degrees plus.
This was my sidetubed springfeed pgp w/s/s barrel.
Gonna have to clean this mess up and start again...
Don't get mad-get even.. bottom pic is my repair job

Yep- My solder is only good to 530 degress or so.
The thermostat went out with 8 minutes left to cook and temp went up past 600 on my two temp guages.
Oh yea- the solder was amused. I can still here it laughing!!!

What solder are you using? Silver Bearing solder or something else? (a brand name would be wonderful )

Yes, It must be silver bearing to solder the stainless to brass. I am using some stiff arse silver solder right now that a friend of mine gave me ( about a 5lb roll) and it says 10% silver solder but I don't know what brand it is. I was using forneys 6% silver solder and it work quite well but even though it says 435 melting point I found it will melt at about 400 so I had to powdercoat at 350-375. Just ran the timer a bit longer. Also a flux containing zinc chloride is a must. I use Rubyfluid soldering paste and apply it heavy with a q-tip.
So the bottom line is forneys 6% silver solder and rubyfluid soldering paste.
Note when soldering s/s to brass to much heat will cause joint to fail.
I do a couple passes over tubes with torch and heat at tip end first and work my way to the rear. Heat enough to cause flux to boil down a bit and apply solder down the line playing torch on and off work (just enugh to boil down flux somewhat).
Never put flame in the joint and never put flame to the flux.
Hope this is of some help.

Oh man that interesting to see but I bet it was frustrating. After I get moved into my house, I'd like to pick up a cheap oven and a powder coat kit. I already have the blacksmith shop / machine shop. Might as well as try my hand at it.
