Sheridan feed plug question.

So I have a PGP and P68SC both with original feedplugs as far as I know. So my question is whats the deal with the hole through the feedplug? It's not threaded, at least my two aren't and all the original ads from vintage rex don't show anything attached to it as I saw. Was there ment to be something attached there, a knob or ring that never made it? I see most just run a cord or string through and attach it to the pump arm which is what I'm planning on doing with some para cord but just wondered what the deal was.

AFAIK Originally there was a nylon cord there ... the other end was retained by one of the grip panels. They didn't survive well.

I figured it had to be something, just don't ever remember seeing anything on the NIB ones for sale back in the ol days. Course that was awhile back but did they stop adding the cord after some time?
