I have done that a few times when I couldn't find one of my valve tools, lol.

thankee dude, now i feel i live my life too safely...  am i the only one with twice as many valve tools as vm's?

There's always room for improvement. You could chamber a valve tool in the lower tube once you get the valve out and fire it across the room...

The other way is to just tap the back of the body against a somewhat yielding surface, like a piece of pine 2x4.
