To go along with the front site I made a Flip-up ladder rear site.
I spring loaded it so it says up when you flip up for the longer shots.
When I showed it to my wife she thought it was a bought piece and yep she thinks it sweet...
I was thinking about powder coating it all matte black when complete. What do you all think?

black would look cool, but a clear coat that retains than clean brass look would be better I think.

DON'T POWDERCOAT IT!!!!Maybe clear coat but no black. I like when brass patinas.

Wow - I had forgotten about that one (its on a shelf crying the blues).

So far thats three for the clr and one for the black (me). I will have to see what the owner wants to do.. Maybe brass and black combo..

And it is not perfection by far. All my work is done with the dremmel, hack saw, spit, files and sometimes a few chioce words thrown in...... Sooo- you know....
Someday if I ever buy a lathe or a mill they would be better I'm sure...

Oh - on the rear ladder site it did take me longer figuring out how to make it than the actual deed itself.

I'd love to see your take on on imitating blued steel

If not, then clear coat the brass for a golden boy look or something.

that is color case hardened steel, fwiw

and that bolt cover screams Arisaka . . . heh, I knew how it would work instantly

so Walz, how much real steel experience do you have?

Is color case hardened the one where you add charcoal, bone, antlers, leather etc into it?

ooh an arisaka, my grandpa had one that he kinda ruined. The bolt action on those things are not smooth, but fun.
