Safety bearing discovery!

I was sweeping up the kitchen floor when I saw something shiny. That's when I discovered it.

My son had a ball necklace...the kind you put charms or dog tags on....often used for keychains as well. This kind

One of the balls had snapped off. EXACT same size as a Sheridan safety bearing. I even took it downstairs to the shop and tried it in a frame. Perfect fit.

The factory balls aren't too expensive. The springs are actually a bit harder to find. Here's a tidbit though... compatible balls and springs can be found in some keyed door locks.

It can be replaced by a small stainless steel "BB" broken off from the Dog Tag Chain.
I apologize for being 'that guy,' but I had heard this trick before, it was really bugging me that I couldn't find the source, and I spent far too much time searching to not post it.

Also, there is a lot of good information in that FAQ, even with the images gone.

Edit: The whole FAQ was originally written by Kampfer, if I'm not mistaken.

The flint spring from a Bic lighter works for a replacement spring too. Just have to cut it down.

Was about to post this. With a few old bics and a dog tag chain you can supply yourself for a couple years. Haha
