GMP's Sharidan Ignorance (Bolts)

I picked up a PMI 1 That I just couldn't pass up and honestly have little to no intention of keeping but was surprised when I got it to see that it seems to have one of these Cooper T bolts (But I was wrong it's a Sheridan Speed Demon bolt what ever that was supposed to do).

Just wondering if I should swap the bolts before offloading the PMI. (No because they aren't compatible)

Opinions?

I know there have been threads about Cooper T bolts before but it's been a while and they seemed to really work depending on paint to bore match. Generally the paint I get around home is about.682-.686 so I wouldn't really call it a big overbore.

Last paragraph now irreverent.

First....a P series bolt won't fit in a traditional K series rifle. Different length.

However there were Cooper-T length bolts made for K-rifles.

Also for info....Some Cooper-T's have a "flatline" affect if it's an undershot bolt. Others are just regular bolts with Cooper-T's magic dust sprinkled over them. I find them to be a touch smoother than Sheridan's stock Speed Demon bolt.

The undershot bolts are black in color (delrin) rather than the regular red....they have a groove milled from the air hole forward to the tip of the bolt.

If you plan to own a P-series in the future....I'd swap bolts out just so you have the Cooper-T later. I love em.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Long Beard

On a second look I need to admit my ignorance. Looks like it's metal, black, and no groove. I had always assumed that all Sheridan bolts with that style back were Cooper T's.

Now I'm thinking this is a Speed Demon Bolt but s Sheridan one (picture on Bacci's site seems to match the appearance of this one)

So the speed demon bolt just makes for a smoother pump stroke?

I'll take a couple pictures of bolts when I get home.....say in about an hour and post them for you to compare.

If the bolt is all metal, and black....good chance it's a Speed Demon. Certain P-series came with the Speed Demon stock. They're nice bolts. If I remember Bret G said that Sheridan swiped the design from Cooper-T. They're very similar. I like the Speed Demon a little more than the straight Sheridan bolt with the bearings and springs. But....I like Cooper-T's a littler more than that.

Pics coming.

Not sure if it's late or early but the SN is I081374

If you have the second from the top, you have a regular speed demon bolt.

The undershot bolt is the third from the bottom. You can see the groove milled in.

Since we are on this subject of bolts. Does the Undershot bolt really have that much effect on creating more spin and a longer trajectory like a flatline barrel? I have always been curious about this.

I have a under shot bolt in a PMI-1 and it does really work, not every shot has the same distance. I was shocked at the distance of the shots.

It has been discussed here before by (I think) HPLovecraft, and Smiley. It seems that they work best with a over-bore barrel, but with today's small paint most sheridans are over bored.

Agreed. My P-series undershot is fun to play with. It kind of makes me giggle every time I pull the trigger.
